I voted for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but don’t love the idea of three three-syllable names if you end up using [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] as a middle.
Thanks so much janinemk! Would you think a single syllable middle name is preferable?
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] best fits the definition of beautiful and strong, imo. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is one of my favorites, but it sounds so light and innocent. Not a fan of [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], but it’s strong…just not particularly beautiful, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. It only brings to mind [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] (perhaps the reason it is your husban’d fave with the nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f]?
Thank you emmamay! [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] is proving to be such a polarising option - some are adamant that it’s a pretty, feminine sounding name best suited to a girl, while others feel it’s definitely the name of a strong, masculine adventurer (and I’m sure you’re right about why DH loves it!)
I do feel myself leaning more towards [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] though…
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] here too. They both are decidedly feminine but not frilly. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is lovely, but a bit froofy (is too a word!). [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] is, well, lets not go there. I also really love love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], but it has quirk and sweetness, rather than strength.
I voted for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] because I love [name_f]Laidy[/name_f].
I would have voted [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]/[name_f]Goldie[/name_f], but I wasn’t sure about the flow of [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_m]Montague[/name_m] - having two three-syllable M names might be too much, or just perfect…I couldn’t decide.
Really love all of your options except [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], which just isn’t my style.
Froofy is most certainly a word and I get your point perfectly I think the main reason I like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is that I just love the idea of calling a little girl [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]. I find it a good combination of simple and original. But I hear you.
Please tell me what you don’t like about [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] though? I genuinely want to hear your opinion.
Thanks so much Meili!
I just feel it’s silly. It’s an action movie character and a state, neither of which make great inspiration for a name. To me it’s the opposite of feminine strength. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] doesn’t have tons of history as name, but it is a floral, and lots of feminine names derive from botanicals. I sounded harsh; I actually love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], but strong isn’t a word I’d use to describe it.
No problem at all, and I appreciate your honesty. I think it’s a very different perspective if you’re not from/do not live in the US. If I consider any South African equivalents I’m inclined to agree
Thanks again Meili!
Thanks so much [name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u], I feel like we’re on the same page
Now that you mention it, [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_m]Montague[/name_m] does seem like a bit of a mouthful maybe…
So pleased you like [name_f]Laidy[/name_f]!
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are all equally EXQUISITE and personal favourites!! For [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] I really love [name_f]Minty[/name_f] as a Nickname! In terms of being a strong Name, I would choose [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]!
If this is going to be the first Girl for generations then I really feel like she needs an undeniably Feminine Name, which [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] definitely is NOT, sorry!
[name_f]Minty[/name_f] is a brilliant nickname for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]! Thank you!
Gosh now I’m just wondering how important is it really for a name to be strong…
For [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], I’m fond of [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f].
You’re very welcome.
I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! I think it works the best with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_m]Montague[/name_m]. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] repeat sounds with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_m]Montague[/name_m], and if you like that sort of thing, they’re perfectly good names. I just prefer not to repeat sounds like that. I associate [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] with the state too much for it to sound strong and feminine to me. It makes me think of fireworks stands and endless cornfields, which aren’t necessarily bad, but I’m also reminded of sitting in horrible traffic jams driving around the southern part of [name_u]Lake[/name_u] Michigan. If you truly love [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], don’t worry too much about my associations. If I met a little girl named [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], I’m sure I would start to make new associations.
I voted for [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]! Although for me [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] is a close close second. I love [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] with the nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f] and it has been on my list for a while. But [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] just really stuck out to me as strong and beautiful and [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] is adorable
I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
I voted for both [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] (obsessed with the nickname [name_f]Laidy[/name_f]/Lady) and [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] ([name_f]Indie[/name_f]!!), both of them are on our list as well.
I eliminated [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] due to the tongue-twisterness with [name_m]Montague[/name_m], and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as I personally find it strong but not particularly attractive (though we will likely be using it as an honor name in the middle spot).
Between [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], it’s a toss up. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is probably slightly more wearable due to it being similar to currently in vogue names, but that familiarity will likely result in some confusion over her not being an [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Addilyn[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], etc. [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] on the other hand is clearly mostly tied to [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] (a great thing in my opinion) and [name_f]Indy[/name_f] racing which are both stereotypically masculine activities, but the name is almost guaranteed to be completely unique while being recognizable which is a tough find. Plus, she could always choose to go by [name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f] later in life if she truly doesn’t like it.
My vote goes to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Indie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_m]Montague[/name_m] is perfect!
