Please help!

We have decided on the name eliza for our daughter who will be here in a couple weeks. Only problem is we didn’t realize it would have pronunciation issues. What is the correct way to say it, EE-LYE-ZUH OR EH-LYE-ZUH. we were saying it with a short e like ehlyzuh or ahlyzuh but then family we told pronounced it as EE-LYE-ZUH. We like it both ways just want to say it the absolute correct way. Plz help !!!

I say Uh-LYE-zuh, and I think Eh-LYE-zuh (how you say it) makes sense too, but I’ve never heard it with the EE before. I’m not sure about the EE one, but how you’re saying [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] seems to be fine :).

I’ve heard both. maybe ask your family and friends or around the area you live to find the dominate pronunciation and use that if you don’t really have a preference. (the Starbucks test could be helpful here)

I have heard both, and you can choose how you want to pronounce it!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there, I pronounce it the same way you do: ehlyzuh or ahlyzuh/uhlyzuh. I’ve only ever heard it pronounced as “EE-lye-zuh” on the [name_m]Wild[/name_m] Thornberries occasionally by the character’s very British father. So maybe it’s a regional thing? I’m from the east coast of the US and I’ve only heard it pronounced your/our way here. I don’t think it would be too much of an issue in real life though, since it’s an easy correction and might not even be noticeable in most instances. [name_m]Worth[/name_m] it for a great name :).

I’m from the midwestern US and only heard one here called EH-LYE-ZUH or UH-LYE-ZUH. All the pronunciations are nice, imo, no need to overthink and stress.

Uh lye zuh

@silversky109 The [name_m]Wild[/name_m] Thornberries is definitely my first (and only that I can think of right now) association. I pronounce it Uh-Lye-Zuh.

Thank you guy! I love it uh-lye-zuh just didn’t want to be going against the right pronunciation and always have to correct people
