Okay, so… When I got pregnant I was determined not to find out the gender of our baby. But SO wanted to know, long story short, we now know we’re having a boy in [name_u]November[/name_u]. Before we found out I had my heart set on [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] for a girl and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] for a boy. I was convinced [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] would be perfect, since it’s an honor name and I love it. But ever since we found out our baby is a boy I’ve been second guessing our choice, I discussed it with SO, and it turns out he isn’t sure either. For a short while we’ve been referring to our baby as [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], sort of testing the name, and it just doesn’t feel quite right. I can’t really explain it, but one of the things that’s bothering me is that [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] sounds so plain compared to Hjörtur, his (half) brother’s name. We went back over our original boy names list, and none of them feels like the one. We’ve come up with some new names though, and I’d like to know what you think.
[name_m]Baltasar[/name_m] - a family name for SO, and we were considering it as a middle name, but maybe it’d be better as a first name? If we use it will be this spelling, because it’s the Scandinavian spelling and it feels most natural to us. Is it too heavy though? I can’t think of any nicknames I like.
[name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] - this would be honoring one of our best friends (but not in an obvious way), it has the nickname [name_u]Nico[/name_u], which we like a lot, and it’s a Biblical name, that’s always a plus.
Flóvent - this is an Icelandic name, like Hjörtur, so it would be honoring my heritage and home country. The meaning of the name is not sure, but it may be a form of [name_m]Flavius[/name_m], meaning “golden”. When I was a child we had a family friend names Flóvent. SO doesn’t particularly like “typically Nordic” names, but when I mentioned this one he fell in love with it.
So, what do you think? We’re not sure about the middle name yet since we’re reconsidering everything, but it could be [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] or maybe [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] in the middle name spot.
