I’m a first-time mama to be, expecting in 8 weeks. I’ll be a single mama, so I get to make this choice all on my own! I would greatly appreciate some help. I like unusual but not “weird” names. I like classic as well as nature-inspired names. I typically dislike nicknames, and don’t care for most names with the sound “ee” at the end. My name is [name]Claire[/name] McGrath; I really love my first name. I like the idea of staying in the Irish/Gaelic tradition, but that’s not essential. Here are some ideas, PLEASE give me feedback on these and some new ideas, I would SO appreciate your help!
[name]Rowan[/name] ([name]Rowan[/name] [name]Alexa[/name]? [name]Alexa[/name] is a family name)
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Bronwyn[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Teagan[/name]
Congratulations - you have some great names to choose from. I love [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Alexa[/name]. I’m an [name]Alexandra[/name] so there are a huge ammount of nicknames for that and [name]Alexa[/name] ([name]Ally[/name], [name]Lexie[/name], [name]Lex[/name], [name]Lux[/name], [name]Al[/name]). It seems the shorter the name the less likely a nickname will occur. If your not a nickname fan I’d go with something short and to the point.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Bay[/name]/[name]Wren[/name]/[name]Rain[/name] ( in keeping with your nature theme)
[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Alexa[/name] [name]Teal[/name]/
[name]Quinn[/name] [name]Alexa[/name] ( [name]Quinn[/name] is my all time favourite irish name )
[name]Hi[/name] riverbio. All the very best to you as you await the arrival of your daughter. Here are some suggestions:

[name]Erin[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Kathleen[/name]
[name]Caitlin[/name]
[name]Niamh[/name] (pronounced Neeve)
[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]
[name]Summer[/name]
[name]Serenity[/name]
[name]Tegan[/name]
[name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Hope[/name] this helps. Good luck!
[name]Hi[/name] [name]Claire[/name]! I think your first name is beautiful as well!
As for the names you picked here, some are definitely NOT ‘nickname-proof’.
Ie: ‘[name]Violet[/name]’ = ‘[name]Vi[/name]’, ‘[name]Beatrice[/name]’ = ‘[name]Bea[/name]’, etc.
I like ‘[name]Fiona[/name]’ best from this list.
If you want to stick with the Irish/Gaelic tradition, I do have a few suggestions!:
[name]Aisling[/name] ([name]Ah[/name]-shleeng); From the Old Irish asilinge ‘dream, vision’. Also written [name]Ashling[/name].

[name]Deidre[/name] – An Old Irish name.
[name]Eilise[/name] (Ay-leesh); The Irish form of [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Enya[/name]

[name]Maureen[/name], [name]Moreen[/name]

[name]Lileas[/name] – The Gaelic form of the name [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Muriel[/name]
Osla
[name]Una[/name] – From the Old Irish uan ‘lamb’.
Best of luck!! BTW, I really like the name ‘[name]Alexa[/name]’. Beautiful!
[name]Hi[/name] there! I think all names have a nickname in them somewhere, and if you don’t find it, others will. I really love [name]Fiona[/name], but you may not care for the “fee” nickname that often goes along with it. Of the names you’ve listed, I think [name]Isla[/name] is most likely to avoid nicknames.
I think [name]Isla[/name] [name]Bronwyn[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] are gorgeous!
Other ideas (one’s with nicknames can be used for middles):
[name]Aveline[/name] (I love this feminine Irish name)
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] (For the life of me, I can’t find a good nickname for [name]Felicity[/name]!)
[name]Hope[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
You’ve gotten a lot of great suggestions! I just wanted to throw out there…my favorite name is [name]Isla[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]. Looked like it fit with your style, and I just adore the combo
Thank you so much for the wonderful suggestions! You hit on some other names I have considered but didn’t post ([name]Norah[/name], [name]Brigid[/name], [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Rain[/name]). And [name]Cathleen[/name] (my middle name) and [name]Erin[/name] (niece) are already family names!
Current top choices are [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Brigid[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Alexa[/name]. [name]Isla[/name] is beautiful, but I wonder if it has enough substance, or is too “wispy” of a name? None have yet truly stood out for me as the one, so the search continues.
I really like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. They’re both great names. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] comes to mind too. [name_f]Greer[/name_f] is Scottish, but a favorite of mine.
I love the idea of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f]!!!
Right off the bat I will say if you are considering [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] I would recommend the -en ending as that’s traditionally the feminine spelling in [name_m]Wales[/name_m], as opposed to the -yn ending.
Most of the names on your list are fantastic!!! I’m always a fan of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] are lovely, and [name_u]Teagan[/name_u] has so much spunk!
I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_u]Teagan[/name_u]. All would work with the middle name [name_f]Alexa[/name_f]. I really like [name_u]Teagan[/name_u] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] with your surname!
My favourites are [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] but I prefer [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] as [name_f]Violet[/name_f] could be misheard as violent.
I love your list, but just wanted to add as a pp has done, that I prefer the [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] spelling rather than the anglicised [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are lovely, as is [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (and I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]), and I don’t mind [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Teagan[/name_u]. I love [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]/[name_f]Tamzin[/name_f] and [name_f]Tamasin[/name_f] as other options. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] are nice enough but feel less substantial to me. Also [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] or Rowenna?
I like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] out of your choices. The rest seem somewhat boring. And [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f] is just downright unattractive.
Congratulations! I really like [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] as a middle name and you have some lovely names to choose from already. I really like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] from your list, but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
The first name that came to mind is a personal favourite of mine, [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] is gorgeous imo.
