My vote is for [name]Artemis[/name] [name]Lark[/name]. And then her initials would be [name]ALI[/name] which is another cute nn option.
I don’t know about pretentious but it has a similar feel to your other names, it has history and it has nn potential (love [name]Ari[/name]) so I don’t think it’s too bad. And there are plenty of other “pretentious” names on the rise and I think it’s far more pretentious to make up your own name than it is to use a classic old name that’s a bit on the extreme side.
[name]Artemis[/name] [name]Irwin[/name] is an amazing name.
And I think [name]Delilah[/name] would cause too many problems, and [name]Lark[/name] seems to stray too far from your style, and [name]Xanthe[/name] is on the tacky side of pretentious for me.

I voted [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Irwin[/name]. I love the lilting sound, and I think it’s a great sibling name for [name]Iris[/name]. I also loved [name]Artemis[/name], though you’re right- it might sound slightly pretentious. [name]Xanthe[/name] also sounds gorgeous, but I’m not loving [name]Lark[/name].

With a big sister named [name]Iris[/name], I like [name]Xanthe[/name] the best - it’s pretty but spunky at the same time. I think the consonant ending names of [name]Artemis[/name] and [name]Lark[/name] aren’t ideal with your surname because they run into each other (Artemisirwin and Larkirwin - this one is worse than the first!). I like [name]Delilah[/name] but it may be too much “i” with a sister [name]Iris[/name].

I love [name]Delilah[/name] with sister [name]Iris[/name]. I also think [name]Lark[/name] would be very cute.

I voted [name]Xanthe[/name] and [name]Delilah[/name] since they’re my favourites and I think they both work well with your surname.

Wow, I really like [name]Lark[/name]. That was a surprise and I real shock coming from a man, honestly. I understand the concerns about the lack of history, but if we’re frank, [name]Delilah[/name] really only has one historical namesake and it’s VERY negative. [name]One[/name] of the most famous prostitutes of all time. Plus, it doesn’t sound to alternative when you already have one child with a nature name.

[name]Lark[/name] is spunky and strong (I love short names) and yet very feminine. I love it. I find this name actually very tame considering [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Artemis[/name], and [name]Delilah[/name]. You have a bunch of very romantic ancient ladies and then a bright nature name which to me, fits much better with [name]Iris[/name] than any of the others.

I voted for [name]Xanthe[/name]. It works best with sister [name]Iris[/name], imo, and it just a lovely name. [name]Delilah[/name] would be my second choice.

I voted for [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Irwin[/name], love it!

I think [name]Artemis[/name] nn [name]Mimi[/name] is ridiculously amazing. I also [name]LOVE[/name] it with [name]Irwin[/name].

Thanks everyone! Really interesting re your feelings on the various names and great that there are champions for them all. Obviously I like them all so it is with some regret that I have to make a decision.

I think we’re probably going to go for [name]Delilah[/name] despite the negative role model.

I’ve had a really quick look at the bible story (will look into it more) and I can kind of convince myself she’s been maligned. She’s not necessarily a prostitute at all. She did take money for spying on [name]Samson[/name] (a honey trapper) but then she might have been a Philistine and thus doing the right thing by her people. Anyway - it’s more of a story which suggests an interesting woman (we don’t know why she did what she did) rather than an out and out baddie in the vein of [name]Salome[/name].

Is [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Lark[/name] [name]Irwin[/name] too many “L” sounds if we were to use it for a middle name? I think [name]Delilah[/name] demands a 1 syllable middle with her 2 syllable surname.

I really like [name]Xanthe[/name] with [name]Iris[/name]. I think having 2 [name]Delilah[/name]'s would be too much.

I agree. To me, [name]Lark[/name] is the perfect name to go with [name]Iris[/name].

I voted for [name]Artemis[/name] [name]Irwin[/name] and [name]Lark[/name] [name]Irwin[/name], because they’re both gorgeous combos that stood out to me. I love the nickname option of [name]Mimi[/name] for [name]Artemis[/name]…

[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Irwin[/name] was ok. You wouldn’t go wrong with it. But I just think [name]Artemis[/name] and [name]Lark[/name] have more character to them.

About [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Irwin[/name], while it is pretty, I would not like to share a name with a relative. I don’t see the point when there are literally hundreds of other names… Especially when you have other pretty options like [name]Artemis[/name] and [name]Lark[/name].

I like [name]Lark[/name] the best with [name]Iris[/name]. Though if you have decided on [name]Delilah[/name] I think it’s great to include your Hubby’s favorite name too. [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Lark[/name] might be a little L heavy but, it’s nothing your daughter couldn’t handle.

I do think [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Lark[/name] is a bit of a tongue twister. Id’ go with something like [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Wren[/name], [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Sage[/name], [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Bay[/name], [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Arbor[/name] or [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Arden[/name] instead. I’m glad you’re leaning toward [name]Delilah[/name], though. I would have suggested [name]Xanthe[/name] or [name]Delilah[/name]. [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Lark[/name] feel too matchy hippie-nature-y and [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Artemis[/name] sound fairly similar to me with their vowel+R beginnings and -is endings.

We’re definitely set on [name]Delilah[/name]. Thank you SO much everyone.

n.b. the family [name]Delilah[/name] is my husband’s cousin once removed (second family for his grandfather so even more removed) and I’ve just realised we have not seen her for at least ten years. Gorgeous girl though! There are four Peters on that side of the family (grandfather, grandfather’s cousin, two grandsons) so maybe it is not such a big deal to them. Though obviously [name]Peter[/name] is a much blander name than [name]Delilah[/name].

I might set up another thread as do need help with a middle name and maybe people are bored of this link by now! I think [name]Lark[/name] is so pretty in the middle (particularly taken with the sonnet 23 link Shakespeare's Sonnets which never fails to make me joyful) but there are a lot of Ls.

It think it needs to be one syllable. [name]Pearl[/name] was an option we toyed with early on as a first name but the ‘earl’ sound in [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Irwin[/name] isn’t ideal.

[name]Wren[/name] and [name]Bay[/name] were on our list too ages ago but I wonder if “[name]Delilah[/name] [name]Bay[/name]” sounds like a place.

Anyway, any top one syllable suggestions gratefully received. Not [name]Rose[/name] though. Think we’ve all had enough of [name]Rose[/name] in the middle, pretty as it is!

RE middles - do you agree that it needs to be a different syllable count from the other two names? e.g. 3 syllables ([name]Delilah[/name]), 1 syllable ([name]Lark[/name]), 2 syllables ([name]Irwin[/name])? With [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Irwin[/name] I guess we could either have 1 syllable or 4 syllables (mouthful? but then how often do you say the name?)

[name]Just[/name] coming back to this post to tell you, if anyone is still following, that my husband got cold feet on [name]Delilah[/name] at the last minute so our 5 week old baby is [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Lark[/name]. Really pleased with it in the end.

Thank you all so much for your help!

[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Lark[/name] is lovely! Congratulations.

I voted for [name]Lark[/name]. I think [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Iris[/name] are super cute!
