We will be welcoming [name_m]Theron[/name_m] junior next month and I am still not 100% sure on my first name choice.
Please let me know your thoughts on [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] [name_m]Theron[/name_m] (pronounced Lou-sea-EN The-RON), especially if it flows nicely when paired with our surname. [name_m]Theron[/name_m] is french by the way.
I’m particularly worried that as [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] finishes in a consonant it makes ones tongue trip when they say the entire name in an English/American accent (as opposed to how “cellar door” flows).
Unless we are in [name_f]France[/name_f] – where it’s pronounced Terôn (with an emphasis on the O as opposed to E) – it is normally pronounced as The-[name_m]RON[/name_m] (again with an emphasis on O as opposed to E, but this time the H is not silent).
I am confident in how the name sounds in [name_m]French[/name_m], it flows beautifully; but the truth is, we live in a country where English is the primary language and my son will attend an English-speaking school so it is actually more important to us that his full name sounds just as beautiful in English.
I actually really like both names. I had [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] (with an ‘a’ instead of an ‘e’ on my list, but it kind of put me off that it’s pronounced Loo-shan, I think the ‘sh’ sounds a bit sloppy. I much prefer [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] as the ‘ci’ is pronounced ‘sea’ which I think is a lot cleaner and nicer sounding. I think maybe having the on sound in [name_m]Theron[/name_m] could be a bit repetitive, but I think [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] might sound quite nice, but that’s just my opinion.
Well I haven’t spoken french in YEARS, but I can pronounce your name in a half decent french accent. I think [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-sea-en Te-ron has a nice flow. With my Canadian english accent The-[name_m]Ron[/name_m] is a tad bit clunky, but I still think the flow is fine. I’ve always pronounced [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] as the way you like, it’s very handsome.
