Poesy?

I saw a little girl who was named this, but i didn’t hear her name pronounced, only written. I can’t decide if her parents meant it to be the word [name_f]Poesy[/name_f] (po-es-ee, kind of like poetry) or if they wanted it to be pronounced [name_f]Posy[/name_f], and just added the e for creative flair.

Which pronunciation would you use if you had to address her? Would you assume [name_f]Poesy[/name_f], or [name_f]Posy[/name_f]?

Sorry, I can’t see this as a real name. In my language it means something like ‘a loser, someone who’s afraid all the time’.

I would assume it was pronounced in the same way as the literary term. A sweet name. Not my style per se, but kind of funky and refreshing. Because it’s archaic and hardly heard of, I find it less literal, and therefore more pleasing, than ‘[name_f]Poetry[/name_f]’ (though I do like [name_f]Poem[/name_f], so maybe it’s more a sound thing). I would get mispronounced all the time, however.

I’d pronounce [name_f]Poesy[/name_f] just like [name_f]Posy[/name_f] and I reckon that’s what they were going for. I prefer the [name_f]Posy[/name_f] spelling.

I love it… as a nickname.

I would pronounce it posy.

[name_f]Posy[/name_f]
It is super cute and i would also try nielle. Nie alle. Ale

I’d pronounce them the same like [name_f]Posy[/name_f].
I think it’s really cute. I think it’s a cute nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]

I’d say ‘po-es-ee’. If they wanted it to be pronounced ‘[name_f]Posey[/name_f]’ they would have spelled it that way.

I love [name_f]Posy[/name_f] and all her variants so I did some research on this a little while ago.
They are all pronounced [name_u]PO[/name_u]-zee.

However: [name_f]Posy[/name_f]/[name_f]Poesy[/name_f]/[name_f]Posie[/name_f] are related to flowers. [name_f]Poesy[/name_f] is indeed related to poetry.
The parents probably choose this spelling because they have a fondness for literature and liked the name.

I’ve seen that before, the parents were fanatical about [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] [name_u]Poe[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Posy[/name_f] and [name_f]Poesy[/name_f] are rather cute, but they probably won’t age well.

I would have guessed that it’d be pronounced [name_f]Posy[/name_f] simply because I’ve never seen [name_f]Poesy[/name_f] before!
