I want to love [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] but [name_u]Alva[/name_u] makes me think of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Edison[/name_u] for some reason, so the sound reads masculine to me
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] is lovely!!
This, and also the fact that [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Edison[/name_u] isn’t exactly the greatest association.
If you aren’t Irish-Irish (not distantly Irish American or similar), I say definitely [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] could be a nightmare for a kid growing up in a country that isn’t used to the Irish language.
I love [name_u]Alva[/name_u] and [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] in all their variants (it’s also got Romansh origins, and [name_u]Alva[/name_u] is just very international in general… which I love about it! And has legitimate masculine and feminine origins… it’s one of the most fascinating names, imo!), but I’m on an [name_f]Ava[/name_f] kick, and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] just makes me happy. I also think [name_u]Alva[/name_u] would be easier to wear than [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u], unless you’re in the UK, maybe. Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of most well-loved Gaelic names like [name_f]Mairead[/name_f], [name_f]Roisin[/name_f], [name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f], and [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], though, so if I fond of those, I’d probably like [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] better.
