We thought we had settled on a name, but now that I’m a week or two from giving birth, we’re back to wavering on a name for our little girl! Her big sister is Maeve, and only one year older. Which name from our current list has your vote? You can pick your 3 faves! Trying to stick with Irish/gaelic names.
Edited to add: would also love your comment on why you chose what you did!
I chose [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_f]Bree[/name_f], and [name_f]Fia[/name_f].
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] is one of my personal favorite names and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it on my own child!
I love how simple yet stately [name_f]Bree[/name_f] is. It is commonly short for other names, but I prefer it on its own.
[name_f]Fia[/name_f] I think is a really underrated gem. I can see it becoming more popular in the next few years. Like [name_f]Bree[/name_f], it’s simple yet has its own flair.
[name_f]Nessa[/name_f], [name_f]Oona[/name_f], & [name_u]Blair[/name_u] are all nice too! But I like [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_f]Bree[/name_f], or [name_f]Fia[/name_f] with big sister [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].
I think if you’re going with a mystical-sounding [name_u]Irish[/name_u] name that won’t be outdone by [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], then [name_f]Nessa[/name_f], [name_u]Blair[/name_u], and [name_f]Fia[/name_f] are your best choices. [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] doesn’t really have the same energy at all (in my opinion).
I love [name_f]Orla[/name_f] + [name_f]Oona[/name_f]!
[name_f]Orla[/name_f] is a gorgeous name that feels bright and sparkly with the lovely meaning golden princess. I like that [name_f]Orla[/name_f] is also distinctly [name_u]Irish[/name_u] like big sister Maev3. I think [name_f]Orla[/name_f] + Maev3 have this pretty wind swept outdoorsy feel.
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] is such a majestic name! She’s a bold, bright and impactful fairy name rich in mythology and looking visually interesting. I think Maev3 + [name_f]Oona[/name_f] are very majestic pairing.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Orla[/name_f] she’s beautiful.
I chose [name_u]Blair[/name_u] and [name_f]Bree[/name_f]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] sounds nice with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (even though the thought of [name_u]Tony[/name_u] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] put me off. I don’t know why), and [name_f]Bree[/name_f] has the same sweetness as [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].
[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] doesn’t sound too similar to you? I would looove to [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], but everyone points out that it’s too matchy with big sister.
Oona/Una and [name_f]Orla[/name_f] are both gorgeous Celtic names and go really welll with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] so those for sure got my vote. I also voted for [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] because I love it but it doesn’t feel like nearly as perfect a match style wise. I agree with the current standing of the poll that [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], and [name_u]Duffy[/name_u] should be last because [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is sadly too similar to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_u]Finn[/name_u] would read like a brother next to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and [name_u]Duffy[/name_u] doesn’t really sound like a full name to me.
[name_f]My[/name_f] votes went to [name_f]Oona[/name_f] / [name_f]Una[/name_f] and [name_f]Orla[/name_f] which are my faves by a mile.
I agree with another pps comment about the windswept feel. These names have a wild feminine beauty about them, which may not quite match [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] for mythological grandeur, but certainly do match in the strength of their slightly different but similarly poetic windswept isle vibe. Perfectly complementary, imo, and I like that they have totally different sounds.
I don’t get the thing with [name_f]Fia[/name_f], in my accent it sounds identical to fear. [name_f]Nessa[/name_f] I just think of the [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] and [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] character which is an unglamorous association for me. The other options I just feel are too disparate with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and can’t hold their own next to her.
I’d just like to add [name_f]Saorla[/name_f] as a suggestion
I only picked one because I love it so much: Orla!! And I see I’m in the majority!
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Orla[/name_f] are such a sweet pair Both spunky and evocative; I imagine someone outdoorsy, independent, and friendly
Also both short and snappy but each with a distinctive sound
[name_u]Duffy[/name_u], [name_f]Oona[/name_f], [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_f]Fia[/name_f], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], and [name_u]Blair[/name_u] are stunning to me. I can see why you’re having trouble choosing!
