Hello Nameberries! I’ve been posting quite a bit, zeroing in on a name I love for my baby girl. Thank you for all your kind insights already. I like names that are uncommon but established, classic, meaningful, and have several nickname options. For my summer baby, I’m excited about botanical/flower names. In addition to a vote in the poll, I’d love your comments. (Please refrain from additional name suggestions, as I’ve already considered so many.) Thank you
Which pronunciation of [name_f]Viola[/name_f] do you use?
[name_f]Delphinia[/name_f] is slightly frilly, more unusual, zippier, and pretty - it’s got a great set of nicknames (Delphi, [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_m]Dell[/name_m], Phinnie, Phee, [name_f]Nia[/name_f], [name_f]Dia[/name_f], [name_f]Dee[/name_f], [name_f]Didi[/name_f], [name_m]Dennie[/name_m], Deenie) that make it feel quite versatile and fun!
[name_f]Viola[/name_f] is bright, sharp, literary, and musical in vibe - it’s a lovely and beautiful name but with sass and spark. It feels slightly more familiar because of the more popular [name_f]Violet[/name_f], though I’ve heard it said in multiple ways? vie-oh-luh is my go to though. Vee, Vie, [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Via[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] make cute nicknames.
I like both, but the concise look of [name_f]Viola[/name_f] is appealing to me most today
Go for Viola! It’s so pretty! Not sure how many nicknames though, all that’s coming to mind are Vivi, Viv, or Lola
vye-O-la most likely - what I consider American pronunciation - although it sometimes comes out as a blend of this and VYE-uh-la - which I think is Shakespearean/English. Wouldn’t use Italian vee-O-la (also pronunciation of the musical instrument - wouldn’t use this).
Yes, I do like how concise it is. But worry it’s so close to Violet, which is quite popular. … the pros/cons of each are very balanced, so hard to decide…

[name_f]Viola[/name_f] for me! [name_f]Delphinia[/name_f] is elaborate and lacy and has loads of nn options, but I can’t help but think of delphiniums and it doesn’t feel very namey to me.
I adore [name_f]Viola[/name_f] though; I love the nns [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] and [name_f]Viola[/name_f] from Twelfth [name_m]Night[/name_m] is one of my favorite characters from classic literature. I wrote a term paper on her in my world lit class in high school and I’ve always felt such an affinity to her… I do prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], also in Twelfth Night), name-wise, but I love the richness of [name_f]Viola[/name_f] and I’ve been thinking about her a lot lately. I would love, love, love to meet a baby Viola; it’s such a lovely name, and feels so fresh imo.
Good luck!
I have a strong preference for [name_f]Viola[/name_f]. It is a lot more straightforward, clean-cut, and simply, while still being fun and spunky.
I think I especially like that it is only 5 letters, compared to Delphinia’s 9.
And I like your preferred pronunciation of [name_f]Viola[/name_f]!
