These are our current top two!
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is my favorite. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is my husband’s favorite, besides [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], but I have decided against [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] for now.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is okay with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. I do love [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], but not as much as [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. I’m afraid that if we had a [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], I could potentially lose my chance to have an [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] feel a little matchy as sisters for me, which is why I feel like like we could only pick one.
So the options are:
Rose [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
Summary
Rosie for “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] the Riveter.” [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is also a honor name for both a friend and family member. I love the imagery of pink roses and rosy cheeks.
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] for the lovely book character, and a little girl I used to nanny had the same name.
Elsie [name_f]Matilde[/name_f]
Summary
Elsie is the name of my grandma, who was wonderful. It’s a very happy and strong name to me.
[name_f]Matilde[/name_f] is another family name. Also for the wonderful book character!
Note: if we went with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], we would call her [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], but she would have [name_f]Rose[/name_f] on the birth certificate if she wants to use it. For [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], we are set on just [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandma was just [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], and the name is very dear to my heart.
Basically, it is my dream to have an [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], but I also want my husband to have a say in the process too. We both love [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].
Which one do you like better?
Rose [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f])
I love both But I only know [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], etc., so I don’t have your familiarity with it as a full name. Perhaps I am in the minority because [name_u]Zooey[/name_u] Deschanel named one of her daughters [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and the name on its own seems to be growing in popularity. And after all, [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is an honor name and that makes it all the more special, so I can understand why this is a tough decision
I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and that it was your grandmother’s name. Why not name you LO [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and your husband could call her [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], too.
Both names are gorgeous and my personal favourite is Rose because I love the name Rose. However I think if I was you I would use Elsie your husband is on board it’s your absolute favourite name and honours your Grandmother. You seem set on Elsie use this one in case you regret it!
I like the idea of Elsie Rose it’s a great compromise.
I voted for [name_f]Rose[/name_f] because it seemed like your partner likes it way more than [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and you like it almost as much. However I do think hypothetically that [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as sisters would be fine. They don’t rhyme in my accent at least. It is really just the -ie ending.
This is such a tough choice, they’re both gorgeous! I ended up going for [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] due to its significance to you and your obvious love for it. If you find [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] too matchy, could you just call her [name_f]Rose[/name_f] instead?
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], I don’t know why? I love just [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], but [name_f]Rose[/name_f], not so much. I think [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is gorgeous though!
I don’t normally suggest this, but why not double barrel the names? [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] is beautiful!
I voted for [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]! I think it’s so lovely and a bit more distinguished than [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. I do know twin sisters named R0sie and [name_f]Lu[/name_f].cy though and I’ve never thought that their names were too similar so I don’t think you have to give up on [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] just yet!
First of all, congratulations!
I voted for [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], but I see why you are struggling. I love the middle name [name_f]Matilde[/name_f], but maybe have an honor name for your husband’s side as the middle? That might make it easier for him to give up [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f].
Otherwise, [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sound perfect as sisters. (Not too close to me.)
Would you consider giving her a second middle name to include [name_f]Rose[/name_f] – [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]? Then your husband could still use [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] as a nn and you would get your [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. Given the [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] story you’ve recently shared, I really think [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] might be the better way to go. (Also, I just think [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] is gorgeous!!)
I prefer [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], and that’s great that it’s an honor name. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful, but I like it much better as a middle name. What settled it for me was the middle names. I much prefer [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] to [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and what about your husband?
Oh, this is such a hard decision, but I went for [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]”, which is an absolutely gorgeous combo and gives her the option of using either [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] day-to-day. I really like the nod to [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] the Riveter, and it’s a neat double honour for you too.
I do totally understand your attachment to the name [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], and the family connection is wonderful, but it sounds like you have decided against your husband’s favourite of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and really, tough though it is, compromise must work both ways. It sounds like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is the best “meet-in-the-middle” name for the two of you, and I always think a beautiful name chosen through a process of mutual compromise gains its own special meaning and symbolism
Would you consider adding a second middle, if you don’t feel like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] would be on the table for a future first name? [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] would both be gorgeous, and you get the boon of using three of your favourites, rather than just two.
Elsie [name_f]Matilde[/name_f] is definitely sweet, but as @katinka says, perhaps a name you both like equally will be better in the end? [name_f]My[/name_f] sister is a [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], which is similar to [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and it works wonderfully.
My baby girl was born on [name_f]October[/name_f] 2nd and her name is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] after both of my grandmothers so I’m partial to [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] however, I LOVE [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]! I think it’s the sweetest name.
