I posted a little while ago, seeking full name suggestions for the nn [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]. It was so helpful, thank you!
Now I’ve narrowed it down to:
Osiris - Pronounced like oh-cyrus - There’s 2 reasons I’m questioning this name. First, it will be mispronounced often, probably. Second, when I search this name on FB, it is only on Hispanic individuals. This, in itself, is not a bad thing, but I’m white and it’s really important to me that I don’t overstep cultures (although the name origin is Egyptian)… So I’m just not sure what to do here.
Osric - Pronounced like oz-rick - I like this one, but my last name starts with that K sound. I don’t think I like the flow of it. As a filler last name, I’ll use “[name_f]Karen[/name_f]” in the poll.
Ozriel - I think of this as pronounced similar to [name_u]Israel[/name_u], but with the ah- sound. That makes me hesitate with this name, as I don’t want people to mishear it for [name_u]Israel[/name_u]… I guess they’re pretty different to be distinctive… Not sure.
Osiris is my favourite. It sounds the most familiar (while still being very uncommon) to me, plus I like the flow of the three syllables with a two-syllable surname.
I agree that [name_m]Osric[/name_m] doesn’t flow brilliantly with a K surname, and Ozriel will be misheard as [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] or [name_u]Israel[/name_u], which are both much more familiar to people.
Ossian, [name_m]Ozias[/name_m] and Ostara spring to mind…
My favorite [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] name is [name_m]Ozias[/name_m]! I also love the suggestion of [name_m]Ossian[/name_m]. Of your choices I like [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] best.
Personally, I like them all but I definitely have a soft spot for [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] - it’s so ethereal. Ozriel comes in at a close second but if it’s said with an ‘ah’ sound then I’d honestly just pick [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] for avoid confusion. Plus [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] is gorgeous as well (in my opinion).
Osric is pretty cool too, but it’d be just as likely, possibly more so, to be shortened to ‘[name_m]Rick[/name_m]’ or ‘[name_u]Ricky[/name_u]’. So if you’re specifically aiming for ‘[name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]’ I’d give this one a miss.
And just to throw in a suggestion, have you considered Oslac?
Overall, I don’t think you could really go wrong with any of them as I think they’re all lovely!
Thank you! I have decided to take out [name_m]Osric[/name_m] due to my last name, so that eliminates any name ending in a hard C or K (I also had [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] on my list a while back )
I also love the ethereal vibe from [name_m]Osiris[/name_m]!
I always thought of [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] pronounced like the word “as” with a sharp aa- sound, rather than a soft ah- sound. But I’ve never met anyone with the name, so I don’t really know. Plus [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] and [name_m]Azrael[/name_m] are in the top 1,000 in the US (which I like to avoid, but they are very low #951 and #961).
I’m still not sure which I’ll go with. At this point, I’ll leave [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] and Ozriel on my list and, if I end up with a boy next year, I’ll probably float them (in written/typed form) by my family and see how they pronounce them, how the names sound when other people say them, etc.
