My favorite is [name]Elliot[/name] but I voted for [name]Frederick[/name] for you.
I think the fact that it was on your favorites list for a while now and always on the top speaks volumes about how you feel about this name. I think you can avoid [name]Fred[/name] or [name]Freddie[/name] by choosing a different nn. [name]Derick[/name], [name]Eric[/name]/k, [name]Rick[/name], [name]Ricky[/name], [name]Red[/name] are just some other names/words hidden in [name]Fredrick[/name] so you can come up with a near infinite amount of nn’s.

[name]Elliot[/name] is my favorite, but all are great names.

I remember a previous post of yours. I just love [name]Frederick[/name] with [name]Louisa[/name]! [name]Nicholas[/name] is also great, but [name]Frederick[/name] feels perfect to me. I really, really don’t think nicknames should be a deal-breaker. If you don’t like any of the nicknames and really just like [name]Frederick[/name], then he’ll be [name]Frederick[/name]. Only immediate family use nicknames with my kids, everyone else always uses their full names, which is how I like it. It’s not that hard to make it clear that the full name is his name. I think you should listen to that pang of envy you feel. [name]Do[/name] you feel the same pang when you hear a [name]Nicholas[/name]/[name]Nico[/name] being called out?

The Spanish version [name]Federico[/name] has a nickname I love - “[name]Fede[/name]” (two syllables, soft /d/). You may be able to find a nickname from another language’s version of [name]Frederick[/name] that you like if you’re looking. I don’t like any of the English ones myself.

I love both [name]Frederick[/name] and [name]Nicholas[/name] “[name]Nico[/name],” but I ultimately chose [name]Frederick[/name] because it sounds so upscale and Presidential lol

It might not be your style, but I’ve always thought [name]Rico[/name] would be a cooler nickname for [name]Frederick[/name] than [name]Fred[/name] or [name]Freddie[/name].

[name]Frederick[/name] could be nicknamed:

  • [name]Rico[/name]
  • [name]Derick[/name]
  • [name]Erick[/name]
  • [name]Rick[/name]
  • [name]Ricky[/name]
  • [name]Eddie[/name]
  • [name]Fred[/name]
  • [name]Freddie[/name]
  • [name]Freddy[/name]
  • [name]Fritz[/name]
  • [name]Rio[/name] (I guess that might be a stretch lol)

Also, I like the combo [name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Frederick[/name], but I would really love to meet a little [name]Frederick[/name] Sounds like a handsome little gentleman

Ooh, I like beautiful_haiku’s idea of a nn of [name]Fritz[/name] too. That’s fun.

Thank you all so much for your feedback! You have actually helped me tremendously. During a 6 hour long drive to my in-laws’ house yesterday, my husband and I had a very good discussion about baby names, and I think we have finally decided on [name]Frederik[/name] (Scandinavian spelling, since that’s more common in [name]German[/name], and my husband also has a Nordic name). Your comments really helped cement the decision for me, especially saying that it sounds “Presidential” and that it goes so well with [name]Louisa[/name]. I totally agree!

aguafresca, your comment about feeling pangs about [name]Nico[/name] also really struck me. I have never felt that at all. [name]Nico[/name] never felt quite right to me, even though I think it’s a great name. On the other hand, I feel really excited about our little [name]Frederik[/name]. I know my family won’t like the name, and the couple friends I have polled also didn’t like it, but I don’t really care. It feels right to us, and everyone will get used to it.

Thank you all again! Now hopefully I will stick with this decision and not bother you all anymore. [name]Happy[/name] Holidays to everyone!

I voted [name]Nico[/name] because if you are seeing [name]Frederick[/name] everywhere, think of when your son is in school and there are 3 other Fredericks in his class. Some or all of them will have to come up with nicknames to aviod confusion which will turn out to be [name]Fred[/name], [name]Freddie[/name], or some other version. [name]Nicholas[/name] is a great name for a boy and it is one he won’t have to try to change, espically if you call him [name]Nico[/name]

[name]Ah[/name], I like them all but I like [name]Frederick[/name] the least.
[name]Nicholas[/name] is the name of my father. I don’t like [name]Nick[/name], or even [name]Nico[/name] as nicknames though. [name]Elliot[/name] is nice, but you probably shouldn’t go with that if your dh doesn’t like it very much. So in this case: [name]NICHOLAS[/name].

Well you could always use [name]Derick[/name] or [name]Erick[/name] as nn for [name]Frederick[/name], even [name]Red[/name] if that works.

Also, you could use [name]Klaus[/name] or [name]Cole[/name] for [name]Nicholas[/name].

I’m not a big fan of any of the names, honestly.
