Just entering the third trimester and these two names are at the top of the list. I’m resisting the urge to write a tomb about how we arrived at each name because I’d just like to see and hear your overall preference. But if there’s one factor that really pushes one name above the other (good/bad associations, spelling or pronunciation issues, etc), please let me know!
I chose [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] because where I live, it’s much more uncommon than [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. Not sure if that matters to you, but I really love both names and think you can’t go wrong!
Thanks! Popularity is a consideration but not terribly important to us.
In our state, [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] is actually considerably more popular than [name_f]Maya[/name_f], by about 66% in 2021 actually. But there’s a [name_f]Maya[/name_f] in my son’s daycare class and I’ve never actually met a [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]!
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] for me! I love the Hebrew origins of the name and it reminds me of lots of special stories involving water in the Bible, most of which are really good associations! [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] has a lovely meaning, and I love the story of [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], but I’m just a huge [name_f]Maya[/name_f] fan
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] is one of my favorite names ever. There’s a beautiful charm to it, it’s so striking and it’s overall less common. *I have a daughter [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], and I’m always receiving compliments on it.
I find it interesting that three different people have described [name_f]Maya[/name_f] as bright and sunny.
I’m curious – is it that the name [name_f]Maya[/name_f] just carries that association, or is it that to some, by comparison, [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] sounds relatively…overcast?
I love the way [name_f]Maya[/name_f] looks and M is such a pretty initial [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] is great too but can be pronounced 2 ways. But then again maybe [name_f]Maya[/name_f] can be too
Maybe its because of the [name_f]May[/name_f], like [name_f]May[/name_f] flowers? [name_f]Maya[/name_f] feels mystical to me as does [name_f]Naomi[/name_f].
@newboots I love both, but especially [name_f]Maya[/name_f]! It’s sweet, bright, spunky, and uncommon, but not unheard of. Are you set on a middle name or still deciding? Personally, I think [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] would be so pretty and sweet!
