Poll: Middle Name for Eli

We are most likely going with [name_u]Eli[/name_u] for our baby boy. We are a little stuck on the middle name. We’d like to use an honor name/combination of honor names, which could be:

[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] (or [name_u]Ray[/name_u]) - to honor my late father
[name_m]Ross[/name_m] - to honor my husband’s late brother
Rodan (combo of [name_m]Ross[/name_m]+[name_m]Dan[/name_m]) - risky since it kind of sounds like rodent, and last name starts with a T

Our last name kind of sounds like “[name_u]True[/name_u]-hat”. It’s super rare and a a little awkward to say, so we like to keep things pretty simple for the first and middle. Ideally I wouldn’t do the 2-2-2 syllable rhythm, but I would make an exception in this case.

Would love to hear which sounds the best to you! Open to comments & suggestions. Thanks!

I’m not sure how flexible you want to be with the honour name, but I think [name_m]Roland[/name_m] would be a lovely pick for you. It’s got the “[name_f]Ro[/name_f]” for [name_m]Ross[/name_m] and the “d,a,n” letters for [name_m]Dan[/name_m], just in a sightly different order. Together, [name_u]Eli[/name_u] [name_m]Roland[/name_m] is super handsome too.

Thanks for your suggestion! That is actually a family name so the only reason I would dismiss it is because it is a direct honor name for someone else. Still a possibility though!

Objectively, my preference is for [name_u]Eli[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]. It’s strong and cool and classic.

I agree that Rodan plus a T surname is a little uncomfortably close to rodent. But if honouring both people is your preference, would you consider a double middle? [name_u]Eli[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Ross[/name_m] “[name_u]True[/name_u]-hat” sounds super handsome and would be my favourite of all of these. I don’t find it too complex, even with an unusual surname, since all three names are short and traditional.

Other smoosh ideas…

Daneross
Rossiel
Daniro
Rossdean

But [name_u]Eli[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Ross[/name_m] is definitely my favourite! Best of luck.

Definitely dont go with the rodent option
I think you can play around a little more with daniel/ray/ross combos, e.g.:

  • russel (ross+el of daniel)
  • rosen
  • dorsen
  • dash

Eli [name_m]Russel[/name_m]…

If you’re open to two middles, I think [name_u]Eli[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Ross[/name_m] is super handsome and sweet! I also love how full of meaning it’d be!

There’s also [name_m]Rodion[/name_m], which is similar to Rodan, but doesn’t include the A so may not be what you’re looking for. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_u]Doss[/name_u], for a bit more of a combination of [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Ross[/name_m].

I like [name_u]Eli[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Ross[/name_m] best though!
