Poll - new first name shortlist

Have recently expanded my top faves from 4 to 6 names, ie the names I would happily give as first name. Interested to see which is NB’s favourite. Comments welcome and I never mind honesty

  • Edda
  • Esme
  • Eugenie
  • Ingrid
  • Jane
  • Rowenna

I love [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], and had both on my list (but a family member used Ingrid). [name_f]My[/name_f] friend has a new cousin named [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and I was surprised the reactions among our friend group was very mixed - some loved it and some hated it.

[name_f]Edda[/name_f] is strong, rugged, warm and cool, with the feel of a narrative poem!

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is sleek, pretty and stylish!

[name_f]Rowenna[/name_f] is warm and rugged with a hint of the magical

You know, as is coming to be usual on these polls I think my faves are the least fave  oh well, someone has to be this person :joy:

I prefer [name_f]Etta[/name_f] to [name_f]Edda[/name_f] (I think maybe someone gave me a negative bias against [name_m]Ed[/name_m] as a nickname, but I ADORE [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], so :woman_shrugging:), but I do like that [name_f]Edda[/name_f] is a little more unexpected. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. I actually think [name_f]Edda[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Edda[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] would be cute combos.
[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] just seems like one of those names that started out unique then turned trendy, so [name_f]Rowenna[/name_f] feels like trying to revitalize [name_m]Rowen[/name_m] and maybe puts me off a little?
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is simple yet elegant and classic.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is my favorite, but I’m also really liking [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] here! A story I grew up with had an adorably geeky [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] in it; admittedly I don’t think [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] is anywhere near ready for comeback, but the dainty [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] and even [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] are so lovely! [name_f]Love[/name_f] seeing them both. Also have ties to a favorite heroine with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] (Bergman played one of my favorite heroines, [name_f]Gladys[/name_f] Aylward, in The Inn of the Sixth Happiness), so she always makes me smile as well.

Also love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] but not as much as these three. And [name_f]Edda[/name_f] and [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] don’t do much for me, sorry!

I would’ve been surprised too… it’s very popular where I am so seems pretty universally liked… to the point where I might start to find popularity prohibitive for use tbh X still very pretty

Ooh pleased someone else likes [name_f]Edda[/name_f]! I had been feeling like the only one :joy: And while I have no problem with many of the names I like remaining rare and many of them are definitely not crowd-pleasers, i don’t think anyone wants to feel completely alone in liking something or that everyone else hates it

Nice to see some love for [name_f]Rowenna[/name_f]. I began by liking [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], then decided I wasn’t keen on the strong ‘wiener’ sound and began to fall for [name_f]Rowenna[/name_f], which I feel retains all of the myth and magic / lit and legend / witchy feel, with a beautiful, softer sound, and as a bonus yields the nn [name_f]Wenna[/name_f], which I find adorable.

I used to love [name_f]Etta[/name_f], but it would be pronounced unattratively where I am, with a glottal stop - more like Eh-a, without the t sound enunciated. So unfortunately that has spoiled it for me, I still love it for others, and I still can’t let go of [name_f]Mariette[/name_f] / [name_f]Marietta[/name_f].

I actually really like the nerdy-cool [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] as well and feel it’s more than ready for a comeback, love the nn [name_m]Gene[/name_m]. I’ve always liked [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] but the similarity to eugenics put me off… however I feel my preferred pronunciation YOO-zhen-ie eliminates this. It’s simultaneously soft and strong pronounced this way

No need for apologies! World would be boring if we were all the same

[name_f]Love[/name_f] esme 🩵 [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] is a new favorite of mine .

Kind of clunky pretty . Hasn’t made the come back other names has.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is very light and elegant

I’m the same re [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] has been on my list for a while but now the regal and quirky-beautiful [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] has overtaken her for me

I love classic [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - I think she’s totally underutilized!

I like [name_f]Etta[/name_f], but I can’t get behind the [name_f]Edda[/name_f] spelling, even though I pronounce them quite similarly (I’m Canadian).

I also like [name_f]Rowena[/name_f].

Agree re [name_f]Jane[/name_f] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is my favourite but the only name here I really don’t like is [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], so you have a lovely list overall!

It’s [name_f]Rowenna[/name_f] (rather than Rowena). Thankyou for your kind comment
