Poll: Oliver

I really like the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] but our last name is a blank blank “er”. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that sounds funny?

Our last name ends with “ers,” sounds like “hers.” I’ve found most names ending in “er” and/or “s” don’t sound good with our last name, though there are occasionally exceptions.

That really depends on the last name. I don’t think you should rule out first names ending in -er just because your last name ends in -er though.

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is three syllables and ends in “er” as does your surname. Not an ideal name combination. Personally, I don’t like the similarity but YOU have to decide if it bothers you enough to let [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] go. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] enough to overlook the matchiness?

Call out the full name a few times and see how it sounds. I would never rule out names because they end in the same letter/s as my surname. Some sound fine, others sound horrible.
