Poll on initials POLL!

So, I don’t normally worry too much about what initials spell, and I figure at least it’s not spelling ‘bum’ or ‘poo’… But one of our current options for bub (due in a couple of months) would give the initals ‘POLL’, and I can’t decide whether this is awful enough to remove it as an option or not.

It would be first, middle, then double-barelled last, so think "[name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_u]Livingston[/name_u]-[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]” for example - don’t want real name on for privacy reasons.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] the initials make it something YOU would take off your list, or not?

Definitely usable. “[name_u]Poll[/name_u]” isn’t a noteworthy word imo

POLL is fine - it’s not a bad word

I really don’t think it’ll be a problem :slightly_smiling_face:

Not a problematic word, and most people will know it as PLL anyway.

Poll is completely fine!

Thanks everyone! So helpful to have this feedback. I think maybe my Mum, who for whatever reason thinks of the initials first with ANY name and then talks about what words they spell as if it matters, has got into my head!

And something about being 4 letters rather than 3 bothers me a little, like it’s even less of a fluke to end up with a word. Great to hear that others don’t see it as a problem, so we can keep our list of options open!

It’s absolutely fine! Nice, even, I’d say.
Delving a little deeper, [name_m]Pól[/name_m] (pronounced like the word poll) is the Irish form of [name_m]Paul[/name_m], and then there’s [name_f]Polly[/name_f] on the feminine side. So POLL has no bad connotations.

My initials as a child were RM. Once before a school field trip, I was overlooked during role call because they assumed my name was an abbreviation for “ROOM”…as in our classroom number.

I survived and made it to the field trip. So would a POLL

Totally fine–a completely neutral/unnoticeable association as far as I’m concerned!
