Anybody?
Or are these truly such hideous names that no one wants to burst my bubble of hopefulness that we’ve finally gotten to a final three?
I voted for [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f]-[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is nice too. You should know that on nameberry, double-barreled names are not popular, nor alternative spellings. So maybe you should open new poll with [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but two middles are not popular, also.
I think [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is a beautiful variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] is pretty too. I am just not liking [name_f]Verity[/name_f] as well as the others. Also [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]-[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a bit much for me.
I voted for [name_f]Verity[/name_f] because I like it the most as a first name. I’m not sure why you would hyphenate [name_f]Sara[/name_f]-[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] in the middle – why not just give her three names? I also like [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f].
I picked [name_f]Verity[/name_f] over [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] because to me [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is confusing – is it not [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]? Would you call her [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], or [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]?
And [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] is intriguing but you already have an M child and it feels the name would devolve into [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], which is not deserving of its more exotic and distinctive formal version.
Therefore…[name_f]Verity[/name_f].
[name_m]Ah[/name_m]! Feedback! [name_f]Love[/name_f] it! Thank you, all!
Feedback becomes so valuable because (among another thousand reasons) it helps one figure out what could be seen as an issue by a less-intimately involved person.
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f]-[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] could easily be [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or even, [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f]. The specifics of this MN is open for adjustment.
My understanding of [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is that it is a true name (not an simply a alternative spelling of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to be pronounced the same), i.e. a [name_m]German[/name_m] variant of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] would be similar to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] in the same manner - both now independent [name_m]German[/name_m] names that originated from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
In fact, [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] has a page here on NB (along with elsewhere) that supports that view.
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] (which I also like very much although our family is much more [name_m]German[/name_m] in heritage) is the Scottish version of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] similar as to [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is the [name_m]German[/name_m] one.
So, what the above feedback is saying to me is that while my understanding is that [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is a real traditional name with a long documented history, it is not being perceived as such.
And, in fact, is being perceived as a perhaps cre8ive spelling of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and/or [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]?
This is discouraging! [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] may well be the front-runner, and if NB folk don’t see it has a legitimate name separate from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], how would non-name loving folk ever see it as such?!
In fact, now I’m confused…
Didn’t you just write a blog post on 12/30 called ‘[name_u]Unique[/name_u] [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names’ that includes [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] as a name?
I think [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is quite pretty. Also, I like double barreled names (mostly first names). Maybe it’s because I’m from the south so I’m used to it. But I think [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is too much. None of the names are really my style but [name_f]Verity[/name_f] appeals to me the most and I love the nickname of [name_u]True[/name_u]. Best of luck!
I really love [name_f]Verity[/name_f] with your set.
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] and [name_f]Annika[/name_f] seem like perfect sisters.
Any more input about the validity of [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] as an independent name?
Would [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] just always be seen as a mispronounced/spelled [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f]! Especially as you pointed out your surname is an abrupt, one-syllable sound. A lovely, soft, feminine sound with lots of nickname choices and honouring both families without direct person link (for your daughter to live up to). A winner on all counts [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
Good luck and best wishes!
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Verity[/name_f] with your sib set. I think [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a lot of name, but they have special meaning to you so I would go for it. However I would switch it to [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f].
but dislike the middle names, especially hyphenated middles.
This. I love [name_f]Verity[/name_f] but it’s such an uncommon name that I feel you need a more traditional middle name to even it out. [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is very pretty and allows both names to shine equally, whereas [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f]-[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] just looks very muddled.
I voted for [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], it sounds so pretty! I personally [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f]. I have never heard of [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f], but I think it’s a very cute alternative to the common [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and keeps the classic feel. So actually, my two favourite options :
[name_f]Mattea[/name_f] [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is a lovely name on its own-- similar to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], but different, and as you pointed out, more true to your [name_m]German[/name_m] heritage (like [name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f] is the Italian version). I voted for [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] as it flows very well and I especially like [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Annika[/name_f] together as sisters (better than [name_f]Annika[/name_f] and [name_f]Verity[/name_f], although I like the name [name_f]Verity[/name_f]). [name_m]Both[/name_m] girls will have names that are a little unusual, but meaningful to the family.
I voted [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Though if [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] had been an option I’d have picked that. I also love [name_u]Matisse[/name_u]… have you considered that?
I am a real [name_f]Verity[/name_f] lover and like [name_f]Pam[/name_f] I think that [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] is a lovely combo.
If I was thinking about the [name_f]Sara[/name_f]-[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I would drop the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and just use [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f] with the ‘are’ sound not the ‘air’ sound.
rollo
I agree! [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] gets my vote.
I like [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] a as a combo however I do think it would be mistaken for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] a lot. [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Matte[/name_f] a is lovely as well.
