I chose [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]). [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]/[name_u]Theo[/name_u] fits [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s style perfectly; classic, but popular enough that it suits a baby boy. Although [name_u]Luca[/name_u] suits a baby boy, it doesn’t have quite the same level of classic. Also [name_u]Luca[/name_u] sounds too foreign compared to [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] in my opinion.
I hope this helps!
Thank you, smartie! Your comment helps a lot Sometimes I am not sure if [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] matches [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] well so it is good to hear that!
I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] sounds great with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] because they are both 3 syllables but have nickname options too. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] or [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] sound like brothers to me!
You can’t go wrong with either but if you are zeroing in on which one goes best with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], I would choose [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
Thank you, madlee! I do love that they’re both 3 syllables. We don’t usually shorten [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] ourselves (but I imagine people will when he’s older) and I was a little worried if it was weird to call [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] his full name and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] usually by his nickname. But I might be overthinking things a bit
Anyone who voted for [name_u]Luca[/name_u] want to share their comments? In real life most people I have asked prefer [name_u]Luca[/name_u] actually, so I am curious.
I voted for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] are names that seem destined to be brothers! I like that both give you nn options! Also, [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] sound like a great sibset as well, if you call them by their nicknames!
Wow! I’m surprised I’m in the minority. I voted for [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. To me, without a doubt that fits best with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] seems too English/traditional. [name_u]Luca[/name_u] has the biblical connotations because of [name_m]Luke[/name_m] which “matches” [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. Also, I feel like [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] has a bit of an exotic flair which [name_u]Luca[/name_u] definitely does.
Good luck! You really can’t go wrong with either.
I’m also surprised that more people have gone for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - [name_u]Luca[/name_u] matches the “exotic sturdiness” vibe that [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] gives me, and especially if [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] doesn’t use a nickname and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would, I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] matches it much better. Matching with a sibling name apart and purely from a name perspective, I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is much less ‘expected’ as a name in general - [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] are both leaping in popularity, and I feel like either of those two wouldn’t be as timeless as [name_u]Luca[/name_u] in the future. Obviously both are great options, though!
Stylistically [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is the better match:)
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m];).
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] seems to be beloved by many users on Nameberry, so it doesn’t surprise me that so many people voted for it. I think it’s a nice name, but I feel like I am hearing [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]/[name_u]Theo[/name_u] EVERYWHERE both online and in real life lately. It seems poised for huge popularity growth. I like that [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] are both names with a little international flare and I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is more unexpected while still being familiar. So I chose [name_u]Luca[/name_u].
I.like [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is dated. I also loathe nicknames
I personally adore [name_u]Theo[/name_u], though [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is a great name too. but without a doubt I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is a better match stylistically. [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] both have biblical ties and have an international vibe that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]/[name_u]Theo[/name_u] does not. Not to say that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]/[name_u]Theo[/name_u] would clash, just that of the two, [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is the better match in style. Either choice will be great though. Good luck!
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] are meant to be siblings.
Wow, thank you so much everyone! I am really surprised at the comments because there really seems to be a divide over which one “fits” better with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] - and I think it comes down to two different ideas of the name [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. I think my own personal view was also leaning more toward the user (I’m sorry but I can’t see who it was now!) who said [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] has too much of an English/Classic vibe, whereas [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is more of an “international sturdiness”. To me [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] don’t clash, but they also don’t scream sibling set to me. But, that isn’t top priority for me, which is why it is still a top contender. I just find the responses so interesting! To me [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] have the same classic international feel and I do like that I would use the full name for both. They both also sound a little soft to me, which I like. So in that sense, I lean towards [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. But sometimes I just like the name [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] better! We will see… 7 more weeks! I will be sure to update in the birth announcements when the time comes! Who knows, maybe we will end up with something entirely different by then haha Thanks again, everyone!
I like that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is similar in length to [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and I like that they can both be shortened which might happen often in school or work…[name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]. The primary concern for me would be the increasing popularity of [name_u]Theo[/name_u]/[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]…
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] do pair well together too and I also think they do have a versatility and cross cultural appeal about them. I think [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] sounds reserved and thoughtful and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is bright and I picture an energetic little guy.
I love [name_u]Theo[/name_u] but in this case I voted [name_u]Luca[/name_u].
I think you have it exactly right. But either one will be a fine choice. Best of luck!
I actually think that both are a perfect match for separate reasons, I agree with both sides so which ever you choose will be perfect. I personally prefer the nn [name_m]Ted[/name_m]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u] for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Ted[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] sound great together too. Both names have a romantic feel that matches [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. I can see why you’re finding it hard to choose. I think today I would go with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
I completely agree, and voted for [name_u]Luca[/name_u].
