POLL: XL initials

Hi all! My husband and I aren’t expecting yet, but I have been bugging him with name nerdiness . We’ve been having a debate about initials and I’m hoping to get some outside perspective. I see a similar post on this site but it’s from 2014, so…

We realized we both love the name Xavier for a boy, which is a huge accomplishment since we have drastically different naming tastes. But then I put it together with our last name and realized the initials would be… XL. Husband thinks it would be fine and a middle name would break it up anyway, but I think that Xavier is unusable since first/last initials are used more than first/middle/last and it could cause teasing.

How do you feel about the initials XL?

  • Yes, should be fine
  • No, it’s a no-go

[name_u]Welcome[/name_u]!

I think it’d be fine.

my initials are arguably much worse and I haven’t gotten comments on it.

I honestly think it’s nothing to worry about — I’ve met folks with much worse initials, and like your husband says you can always include his middle when putting his initials on things

I agree that it should be fine. [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] is a very handsome name!

I might be a little more cautious if something like height or obesity runs in your family but otherwise I don’t think it’ll be much of an issue!

I think it’s okay, especially as it’s for a boy (I think a girl is more likely to be teased about being a “size XL”, but that could be just my perception).

If your family has a genetic tendency towards being overweight, I would be hesitant to recommend it though.

Good thoughts! I still see the potential concerns that could come up, but I’m more reassured about it. It’ll stay on the list for now. Thank you everyone!

I had to read the other posts to even work out the concern, I didn’t think of clothing sizes at all!

Def think XL is fine to use, people don’t often go by just their initials any way.
