[name_u]Baby[/name_u] girl due feb 2020, husband and I like the idea of the name Poppins, we would probably caller her [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] but wanted something more “formal” for the actual first name. (We did get the idea from [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Poppins, but I wouldn’t say it’s “after” her)
I posted today on a pregnancy app forem looking for middle name ideas and was instead given 10 fairly harsh responses about how they don’t like Poppins… so now I have 2 questions:
[name_f]Do[/name_f] any of you out there like Poppins? (If not just say no, please no need to drag a name I like through the mud in detail, no tells me enough)
[name_f]Do[/name_f] any of you have any good sounding middle name ideas? I’m having a hard time finding something that “flows”.
Let me guess, you posted on Babycenter? Those people can be brutal! I like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. I’m not personally a fan of Poppins. Maybe [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] could work with nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]?
I would go with a classic middle name.
Poppins /[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]?
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]?
I’m sorry that happened to you. I’m not a big fan of Poppins as a first name. I can’t really take the name seriously. But I do love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] by itself or short for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], or maybe use Poppins as a mn.
To me Poppins sounds more like a nickname then [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] does, but maybe in the middle spot.
maybe…
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
Caliope nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Portia[/name_f] [name_f]Odelle[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
I also prefer [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as the given name to Poppins. I think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] can stand alone but @yogi.kiki has lots of great suggestions to get [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as a nickname. I would add:
No. I would use [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as the name and possibly Poppins as a nickname. Poppins could also be a nickname for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
In case it appeals to you I do love [name_m]Pippin[/name_m], both as the full name or as a nickname for [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
I’ll be the voice in the wilderness… I like Poppins! It reminds me of other transferred surnames like [name_u]Collins[/name_u] or [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], which gives it kind of a Southern/preppy vibe to me. And [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is super cute as a nickname!
For middles, I think something distinctly feminine and classic would give a nice balance, and I wouldn’t go for anything starting with an S, P, or soft C. (And of course, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is too much.) Suggestions:
I think Poppins is a bit too silly-sounding, but it’d be cute as a nickname! [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]'s really sweet. A lot of middle names have been mentioned so I’ll just say that I agree with the people suggesting a long and feminine middle name.
I agree that Poppins would be an adorable and unexpected nickname for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], or [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], as suggested by others. I don’t personally like it as a name.
I’m sorry about your experience with negativity on the internet-- I’m not sure why people are so mean. It’s not helpful.
Like other posts have said, I think it would make an adorable nn for [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] (which I love) it’s not bad, I would just prefer to be named [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] with nn Poppins than Poppins with nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
Sorry if someone has already suggested it but Poppins reminds me of [name_m]Pippin[/name_m] which is also very cute. Also, [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
Poppins [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
Poppins [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
Poppins [name_u]Reese[/name_u]
I love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], not sure how I feel about Poppins. I do like unusual names, so I think it might be kinda great. I think there are a lot of MN that would work, just stay away from anything [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Marie[/name_f]…
I’m also not hugely fond of Poppins myself; a bit to surnamey, and I think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is much more appealing? But I can see the appeal.
I’d opt for something like Poppins [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], Poppins [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], or Poppins [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] if I did use it, though. Poppins [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]? I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn Poppins might be kind of cute, though, or even [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] nn Poppins. Funny enough, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] seems more full to me than Poppins.
I’m sorry people were cruel to you! That’s so unnecessary. It’s not a terrible name by any means, it just doesn’t fit most people’s taste. Would you be interested in [name_m]Pippin[/name_m] at all? I find that one quite similar in tone but a bit more upbeat/familiar. [name_m]Pippin[/name_m] nn “[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]” would be cute.
Im sorry to say but I am also not a fan of Poppins. I just don’t see an adult woman being happy with that name. I do love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], though. It definitely works as a full name but I also love it as a nickname for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I agree that Poppins would make more sense as your cute nickname for her but definitely not her given name. If you are insistent on Poppins, I would strongly suggest a feminine, not-so-“out there” middle she could use should she not want to go by such a unique first name when she gets older. It could work as a middle name…
[name_m]Just[/name_m] some further thoughts - I do like unexpected nicknames for more conventional names and I do really like Poppins if it were to be used in this way. Besides the ones already mentioned I could see Poppins a nickname for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Portia[/name_f], or even [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (as [name_f]Posy[/name_f] is used as a traditional [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn.) It would also make a great quirky nickname for a [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!
I do like it when people think out of the box with interesting names, and even though Poppins doesn’t quite work for me as the full name, I do also think it’s quirky and interesting.
