My husband really likes [name]Poppy[/name], and it has been on my long list, but now that we are considering actually using it…I’m gun-shy. I just don’t know. Does it seem like a real name, or is it silly? Can you imagine a baby [name]Poppy[/name] and an adult woman named [name]Poppy[/name]? I live in the U.S. on the [name]West[/name] Coast. I know that this name is more common in the U.K. If I did use [name]Poppy[/name], I would need a one-syllable middle name and am open to suggestion. I like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Anne[/name], but it’s pretty boring. I also like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jean[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jo[/name], but I feel like maybe that’s too much “o” sounds. My husband initially really liked [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Love[/name], but that is [name]WAY[/name] too close to Puppy [name]Love[/name] for me. Although, I am liking [name]Love[/name] as a middle name. So, what do you think of [name]Poppy[/name] and which one-syllable name would you pair with it? My best friends H-A-T-E-S it, so feel free to tell me if you do too.
I have a dance student named [name]Poppy[/name], she’s 6 and absolutely darling. It’s a little hard to imagine on an adult but I feel like a lot of names are at first but once they are actually on a person they are better. Here are a few middle name suggestions
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Beth[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Brynn[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Rue[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Shae[/name]/[name]Shay[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Sage[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
I personally love it. I grew up with a [name]Poppy[/name]. She was very pretty and popular with the guys. She was also very sweet, so overall it is very positive in my mind. That experience also makes it easier for me to picture it on an adult. I really do think it works. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jean[/name]. And I like the idea of using a more common middle name that you like, in case she would like to go by it in the future. That really does happen a lot.
I dislike it a lot. Makes me think of opium poppies and the poppy fields commemorating dead soldiers. They’re beautiful flowers, don’t get me wrong, but I find them a bit morbid imagery-wise. Much prefer [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name] or [name]Penny[/name].
But my favourite one-syllable middle names for it would be [name]Jane[/name], [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Clare[/name], [name]Niamh[/name], or [name]Mae[/name]. Most of the other one-syllable names I like don’t go too well.
I don’t think [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jo[/name] is bad for o’s, but I do hear “[name]Poppy[/name] [granddad] [name]Joe[/name]” which is a bit weird - I know a [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Joe[/name] actually, his granddaughters are adorable. I think I would try to stay on the girly side of middle names. [name]Jane[/name] would have less issue than [name]Jo[/name] or [name]Jean[/name] in that sense.
[name]Love[/name] is very close to one of my own middle name favourites, [name]Dove[/name], but [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Love[/name] IS too close to Puppy [name]Love[/name] and also the o thing isn’t ideal in any case.
I love [name]Poppy[/name]. Always have.
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Hope[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Elle[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Greer[/name]
This [name]West[/name] Coaster is obviously a fan. I like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Sage[/name] the best. Very earthy and it makes me hungry for a really good salad. Wait that’s prolly not good for a baby name. Middle name suggestions: (most are not 1 syb I think it’s too choppy but that’s just me)
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Reece[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Malone[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Calais[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] Larkspur
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name]
Cheers!
Not a fan; it sounds kiddie.
All I think of is poppy/papi- what people call their dad or granddad or even their hubby/bf. Definitely avoid boyish or unisex middle names so she doesn’t sound like someone’s grandpa
I like [name]Poppy[/name] a lot! Its not quite my style but I think it is spunky and fun. I do honestly think that it may not age well though. What about [name]Phillipa[/name] nn [name]Pippa[/name]?
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Love[/name] makes me think of this Gymboree - Poppy Love
I like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jean[/name] a lot
What about (sorry for repeats)
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Joy[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Dru[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
I love [name]Poppy[/name]! [name]Adore[/name] it, actually, and would use it if it wasn’t already practically written in stone that my children will call my dad [name]Poppy[/name]. He’s kind of practically obsessed.
It’s adorable, really.
I think I would probably end up using a fuller name with the nn [name]Poppy[/name], because just [name]Poppy[/name] seems a bit cutesy–I can see a professional [name]Poppy[/name] ([name]Poppy[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name]!), but I don’t know if just any little girl (or professional woman) could pull it off well, so I like the versatility a fuller name gives. I would opt for [name]Josephine[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name], nn [name]Poppy[/name], personally. I love the association with poppy flowers, and Remembrance [name]Day[/name] (which isn’t a thing here in [name]America[/name], but I have a friend in the UK who celebrates it, and dresses her little girl in poppy dresses every year, and I think it’s just so sweet!). I think it’s a lovely name.
I think something like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Anne[/name], [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jo[/name], [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jean[/name], etc. all run the risk of sounding a bit cutesy/dated/generic, due to the type of MN they are. It’s hard to get away from that filler feeling with a 1-syllable mn, though. Maybe something like:
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Fleur[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Grier[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (again, sounds sort of like a double-barrel, but [name]Jane[/name]'s so classy I like it anyway!)
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Liv[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
I think something like [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Fleur[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Liv[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Eve[/name], etc. would be equally lovely, too.
Good luck!
I actually like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Anne[/name] and don’t find it boring since [name]Poppy[/name] is so spunky, and then [name]Anne[/name] grounds it a bit.
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Mae[/name] would be cute
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jane[/name] would be my personal fave
[name]True[/name]. 11th of [name]November[/name] is known as [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Day[/name] or Remembrance [name]Day[/name]. Did you know though, that the poppy wearing tradition actually started in the US? I don’t know when you guys stopped wearing them but we kept it up over here.
Regarding [name]Poppy[/name] as a name, it feels really overdone here at the moment. It’s not a terrible name and I know a grown up one so I can definitely imagine it on an adult. I just find it a little boring.
No, I really had no idea! I had to look it up to even know what it was about–but it seems like such a worthy thing to celebrate, and seeing little girls all dressed up in poppies would be so cool. I don’t know why [name]America[/name] doesn’t do it. Seems like an awesome holiday to me! haha.
[name]Don[/name]'t you have Veterans [name]Day[/name] though? I thought that was similar to Remembrance [name]Day[/name].
I love [name]Poppy[/name] as well. I think it has a fresh floral feel and isn’t overdone. I have met an adult [name]Poppy[/name] and she was lovely. [name]Anne[/name] is my fav girls name, but I am not loving it with [name]Poppy[/name]. I love suggestion of [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Mae[/name].
lol! I don’t know how I missed that! I feel so dumb now, lol. It coincides exactly, but I didn’t think about that with the poppies and the different name and everything…
I think [name]Poppy[/name] is a really cute name. I actually like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Anne[/name] too, it’s vintage and fresh at the same time. I also like:
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Beth[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
I know you said you wanted a one syllable middle name, but I really like [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Good luck!
Veteran’s [name]Day[/name] in the U.S. is to celebrate living miliatary persons. Memorial [name]Day[/name] is to remember those that died in service, and that is when you were poppies! [name]Haven[/name]'t you U.S. ladies and gents seen the poppies on the lapels?! I love the idea of poppies on the dresses though!
With that being said, I think Poppies have a very positive association, and even despite the “grandpa/poppy” thing, I still think it is a very usuable nn, I would definitely give her a “full” name.
I like [name]Poppy[/name]. I don’t see why it would be any sillier as a name than [name]Lily[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are two syllable flowers ending with an “ee” sound and they have a very similar feel to me. My favourite combo mentioned is [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jane[/name].
I looove [name]Poppy[/name]! It’s a shame it isn’t usable in my native tongue:( [name]Poppy[/name] [name]May[/name]/[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is darling. [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a great option too, as is [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Anne[/name]
[name]How[/name] weird that you guys celebrate the living military on the day we honour the deceased! For once I wish we could all celebrate the same thing on the same day
Is there any specific reason you have Memorial [name]Day[/name] in [name]May[/name]?
