šŸŒž popular names on nameberry that are not really your taste?

mine would be:

aurora, bee, elena, evangeline, evie, genevieve, ivy, isla, june, juno, juniper, kate, lilian / lillian, maeve, penelope, persephone, thea, willow, wren

blythe, honey

ash, asher, ashton, arlo, beau, cassian, daniel, dominic, ezra, felix, fox, james, kai, lachlan / lochlan, miles, otis, peregrine, tobias, wilder, zachary

i donā€™t really get the appeal of these :woman_shrugging:t2: maybe someone of yours likes these and would like to tell me some points of these that made you like it? but anyways, in general, what are some names that do not appeal to you or that are just bland / you donā€™t get the hype of that are popular in nameberry?

i like most of the names popular on nameberry, but these are some exceptionsā€¦

poppy- i really donā€™t like this name. i know itā€™s kind of popular but i still canā€™t see it on a person and i donā€™t know why!
ambrose
blythe
aurelia- iā€™ve tried so hard to like this name, but i just canā€™t! i mean i donā€™t hate it, itā€™s just ok
cassius- really donā€™t like the cash-us pronounciation
daniel- bad association
daphne
clover
delphine
flora
florence

most of these i donā€™t know why i dislike themā€¦ but i do :joy:

the biggest one for me is imogen, i honestly just canā€™t see the love for it

most of the nb names arenā€™t my ā€œstyleā€ but i do still like them! i will say, i donā€™t get the caspian obsession (heā€™s nice, but i like cassian more!) and i donā€™t care for ambrose, genevieve, ivy, matilda or theodore

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_u]Wilde[/name_u], and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. I just donā€™t get the hype for them.

The eccentric middle nature names like [name_u]Moonglade[/name_u] or [name_f]Sunflower[/name_f] are not to my taste and just remind me of [name_u]Warrior[/name_u] [name_f]Cat[/name_f] names

I like most of them, but these are a few I see a lot but wonā€™t go on my personal list:*

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_u]Asher[/name_u]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
Sylvie/a
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_u]Levi[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] / [name_u]Edward[/name_u]
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m] / [name_u]Augustine[/name_u]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]

(*) Iā€™ve tried to stick to ones that donā€™t feel popular irl, and, Iā€™ll also add, my opinions can change and I donā€™t hate these for others!

juniper, imogen, matilda, annelise, eloise, evangeline, phoebe, elodie, nora/eleanor, olive, lola, wren, millie, june, abigail, lorelei/lauren/laurel, greta, fleur, rue, tess/tessa, celine, rowan

arlo, shepherd, kai, tobias, noah, evander, sebastian, emmett, gideon, luke/luca, soren, bodhi, tadhg, zane/zain/zayn, logan, cedric, daniel, silas, ralph, jonas, samuel, conrad, austin, david, julius/jules

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]. I dislike [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] due to its meaning ā€˜lameā€™. I donā€™t like the trend of boys names for girls. I hate the idea of calling a girl. [name_u]James[/name_u] for example. Poor child! Sheā€™ll probably be sat in a class with a boy of the same name, envying all the girls around her with their super feminine names.

I like [name_f]Greta[/name_f]! I feel like it isnā€™t popular at all on Nameberry though? Same for [name_m]Julius[/name_m] / [name_u]Jules[/name_u] (b). I thought that I was almost the only one who liked these names on NB. Never saw [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] around here neither.

I donā€™t like [name_u]James[/name_u] neither for a boy nor for a girl, so

i just canā€™t make myself like flora !! i understand the appeal totally, but she just doesnā€™t work for me.

iā€™m also just not a fan of evangeline, susannah, eliza (though i love elizabeth), linnea, or esther !!

also im not sure i can say i ā€œdislikeā€ it because i totally get the pretty sound and meaning, but iā€™m kind of a lucy anti. itā€™s so extremely, comically popular around me that itā€™s completely lost its sparkle, and i just cannot get on with the hype.

I donā€™t know if this counts, but I really donā€™t like the two middle name thing. Everyone seems to use two middle names, and I get it (why not use more names you love in one name) but I just think it sounds a little over the top? I like the simplicity of just one middle.

I get the appeal of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but I donā€™t like it. Same for [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - and I donā€™t get the appeal of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a full name neither.

classic boy names are not my style in general so almost all of the ones I see on nb are just meh to me.

one that particularly stands out though is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I donā€™t get the hype for it.

for girls, I have a soft spot for a lot of the popular nb names because a lot of them were once on my list (such as [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], Alice). I donā€™t like clementine, flora, elizabeth, esther, or anna. also, while I donā€™t dislike them, lucy and louisa are just meh to me. I much prefer louise!

I donā€™t like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] neither, and I used to dislike [name_u]Louise[/name_u]. But I am starting to have a soft spot for it recently!

Of the ones on your list, probably [name_u]Fox[/name_u] and [name_u]Beau[/name_u] are the ones I donā€™t really see the appeal of.

Also: anything with -lynn smashed on the end like Paigelynn or [name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f] and the ever-so-popular [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] (or any spelling thereof). [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is fine but waaaaaaaaaaaay to popular so I donā€™t get the appeal of it. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] as well.

I also agree with the suggestions of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_u]Bodhi[/name_u], and [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m]. As well as @DCAT 's distaste for [name_u]James[/name_u] for girls.

Faye, Clementine, Aurelia, and maybe Rowan are the only ones I can think of that I have an active dislike for, though I also donā€™t really understand the hype about Clara, Maeve, Etta, Evangeline, Elliott, Dorothea, and a few other names like that. I donā€™t have anything against them really but they just feel very meh.

Also the trend of ā€œquirkierā€ names like Wednesday or Cosmo, not that I donā€™t not like every one of those but I feel like their charm is in their unexpectedness, and now that I see them all the time theyā€™re starting to feel stale.

Iā€™d say between 50 to 60 percent of the ā€œnameberry signature tasteā€ doesnā€™t appeal to me. Most of them, I can see the appeal, but I think they are overrated. Names such as [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Fay[/name_f], [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_u]Rose[/name_u], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_u]Wilde[/name_u], [name_u]Wilder[/name_u], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] would fall under this category. Some, I donā€™t get the appeal at all, like the compound word names, I just find them kind of ridiculous.
Also, while there are some boys names that I like on girls, and some girls names I like on boys, I really dislike when girls are given hypermasculine names or when boys are given hyperfeminine names. I will never be able to see [name_u]Robert[/name_u] or [name_u]George[/name_u] on a girl, nor [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] on a boy. [name_m]Even[/name_m] in hypotheticals, I just canā€™t see it.

I donā€™t get the type of [name_f]Etta[/name_f] neither, but I like [name_f]Hedda[/name_f] and sort of like [name_f]Edda[/name_f] :sun_with_face:

For me: [name_f]Hedda[/name_f] > [name_f]Edda[/name_f] > [name_f]Etta[/name_f]

@Inlakesh [name_f]My[/name_f] opinion, but I donā€™t think that Lavandar is so feminine! I can see it as a middle for a boy. Not for my boy, but because in general it looks like ā€œlavaā€ and feels weird for me just because of that, but I like it for others

For a girl: [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
For a boy: Lavandar, Lavander

(But I think that those three could suit anyone. Those are just my preferences)

I donā€™t think any of the popular names on here are names Iā€™d actually use, but I like some of them. The ones that are really not my thing, are:

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (Sylvie is alright, but also not my thing)
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] - Iā€™ve been trying to like this for so long, I justā€¦ donā€™t
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - as a Nordic person, this feels so extremely common to me
[name_m]Soren[/name_m] - I canā€™t help but find it funny and bewildering when people on here see this as a ā€œfresh, modern nameā€. Itā€™s so boring when you come from a Scandinavian or Nordic background. And the spelling will always feel wrong to me, it should be [name_m]Sƶren[/name_m] or SĆøren
[name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] - this should be right up my street, I just donā€™t feel it
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] & [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - I put these together because they have the same vibe to me, and itā€™s just not for me
