Popular names on Nameberry

What are names that seem to be popular among Nameberry users that you dislike? What are the most popular name among Nameberry users in general?

I am pretty new to Nameberry, but I see [name]Clementine[/name] a lot…and I just cannot get into it! I can’t shake the association with oranges and it makes the name silly to me.

Editing to say that I also see Persephone often. The printer in my office is named Persephone (don’t ask, haha!), so I will probably never take that name seriously. Also, Willow…a pretty name, but nms.

Please post your thoughts!!

I don’t get Berries love affair with [name]Jude[/name], [name]Jonah[/name] and [name]Jonas[/name]. They seem like perfect names for an overzealous bible thumper to have. [name]Just[/name] too old and biblical sounding for me. Not appealing. [name]Jude[/name] just makes me want to sing, Hey [name]Jude[/name]…

Hahah the song is why I love the name!!! Agreed with you on Jonah and Jonas though!

I will be back with a list of names I dislike that berries seem to love!!! I don’t have time for more than a quick post right now.

HAHA I love [name]Jude[/name]! I could do without [name]Jonah[/name] and [name]Jonas[/name].

I don’t like being mean… but I loathe [name]Thisbe[/name] and [name]Bodhi[/name]. I’d rather call my children [name]Nevaeh[/name] and [name]Jayden[/name] than those names.

I feel like I see [name]Willa[/name] all the time. I personally think it’s awful.

I see [name]Imogen[/name] all the time and just can’t get into that name at all!

I can’t get into [name]Violet[/name] at all but it seems really popular on Nameberry. I like [name]Cora[/name] well enough as a nickname but can’t see the appeal on its own- it seems too sweet and cute for a grown woman.

I don’t hate, I just don’t get these: [name]Atticus[/name]. Bohdi. [name]Thisbe[/name]. [name]Antigone[/name]. [name]Romeo[/name].

Hey, I love the name [name]Jude[/name]!
Names I see a lot and don’t like are:
[name]Violet[/name] - (one letter away from violent, plus I prefer [name]Viola[/name] anyways),
[name]Jonas[/name] - (reminds me of boy band),
[name]Persephone[/name] - (I’m sorry but I practically loathe this name with a passion),
[name]Willow[/name] - ( I was almost named this, so I don’t really hate it, but i think it has gotten too popular now),
[name]Willa[/name] - (I do see this a lot and I honestly font really like it either).
Two other names that I’ve seen on here and like are [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Isla[/name].

I can’t stand [name]Iris[/name], [name]Waverly[/name], [name]Harriet[/name]/[name]Hattie[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Teagan[/name], or [name]Willa[/name], all of which are pretty big here. And last names as first names, especially on girls.

For girls I see [name]Waverly[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Thisbe[/name]…which I don’t ‘get’.

For boys it’s - [name]Atticus[/name], [name]Clement[/name], [name]Peregrine[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Bodhi[/name]…

[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Plum[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Thisbe[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Mavis[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]

I also don’t get the hatred on nicknames e.g [name]Millie[/name] needs to be short for [name]Amelia[/name] yet [name]Eliza[/name] is okay?
Surnames like [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name]
And popular names like [name]Isabella[/name] don’t hate her cos she’s beautiful

[name]Felicity[/name]!

Everyone goes ga-ga for this name and all i can think is- i don’t think i’d ever like anyone named [name]Felicity[/name]. Seems annoying.

Also, all of the sugar frosted names like [name]Arabella[/name] & [name]Georgiana[/name].

I hate, HATE, absolutely DESPISE boys’ names on girls. [name]Every[/name] time I see a thread asking “Would [name]Jasper[/name] work on a girl?” or “[name]Mason[/name] for a girl?” or “Elliette!!” I want to smash something. (I also cannot stand so-called “author Berries” showing up in the baby name threads asking strangers to name their imaginary friends…but that’s another rant entirely.)

I don’t like [name]Tallulah[/name] or [name]Clementine[/name] or [name]Harper[/name]. I’m not at all a fan of the Irish name zeitgeist. Preppy wannabe-[name]Ivy[/name] League names like [name]Crew[/name] and [name]Sloane[/name] make me roll my eyes. I find the names [name]Cohen[/name] and [name]India[/name] really, really offensive, and so much of the name-bashing around kree8tiv “urban” choices smacks of thinly-veiled racism. That said, I really hate random mash-up invented names: [name]Kinsley[/name], [name]Braylee[/name], Kaidyn, etc. Also, adding a ‘y’ or ending a name ‘-leigh’ does not make it unique or feminine, it just makes you sound like a fourteen year old.

Also, the “more offbeat than thou” attitude I see a lot is just ridiculous. It’s perfectly understandable to like unusual names – I’m a huge fan myself – but if you’re fretting that [name]Marigold[/name] is too popular (a thread that actually, honestly happened) then you have stepped off the deep end into full-blown baby name narcissism.

Oh augusta_lee… so many things that are right on.

[name]Atticus[/name]! [name]Love[/name] the book and the character, but the name…just no.

[name]Poppy[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Freya[/name] - though that might be more to do with the fact that they’re quite popular here so the unusual factor wore off quite a while ago, and whilst they’re nice enough, I find them rather boring. I also don’t get [name]Olive[/name]. I usually like, or can appreciate, ‘old lady names’ but I just can’t get this one…and I’m not overly fond of olives myself

Honestly, I don’t understand the craze of word some names like “[name]Story[/name]” “[name]Snow[/name]” “[name]Sonnet[/name]”.

This. totally and completely. To me if you aren’t willing to name your boy with a feminine name ([name]Mary[/name]? [name]Lucy[/name]? [name]Diana[/name]?) then you shouldn’t be talking about naming your girl a boys name. It’s just not cute to me.

Honestly, this doesn’t bother me at all.
I’m here for entertainment, to see interesting names and combinations and maybe help somebody a bit once in a while. I like names and I like giving my opinion. I could not care less if the baby or person I’m supposedly “naming” is real or imaginary. What difference does it make? I mean, if they’re just trying to stir up trouble and discord that’s different. But there are plenty of people who jump into “real” threads just trying to make noise anyway.

I agree that [name]Tallulah[/name] is horrible, I’ve said it a dozen times. And a lot of the unpronounceable Irish names like [name]Niamh[/name] make my brain hurt.

As for names like [name]Cohen[/name] or [name]India[/name], I don’t find them offensive–I have no reason to, it’s not my culture–but I’d never use them for the same reason. Exactly why I wouldn’t use, [name]Keiko[/name] or [name]Guadalupe[/name] or [name]Dimitri[/name] or a hundred others that still point very directly to one culture.

As for “urban” name-bashing, for a very long time people have attempted to name their children with the patterns laid out by higher socio-economic groups. Trying to follow the trends of the upper classes in hopes of giving a kid a hand up.
This community is definitely more in that group (the “lets follow the upper crust”) than in the kree8tiv, “lets add a y to everything”, smoosh-loving set. That’s just the territory here. I’m sure there are also forums that cater more to other tastes.

I definitely see that as well. People are so dang worried about their child ever meeting someone else with their name that I think they’d copyright it if they could. I understand the tragedy they feel accompanied their own childhood experience of being [name]Jennifer[/name] B., but seriously people, get a grip. It truly is not the end of the world if there is another child in your class with the same name.

I agree with much of what augusta_lee said and all of jamiejamiemomamie.
