Popular names that just aren't for you!

We all have our own naming styles and preferences, but generally popular names are popular for a reason… People like them! I was wondering what popular names just aren’t your cup of tea. Not to be harsh or mean about the names, but just to see which popular names maybe aren’t as popular as they seem!

For me, the most obvious example is the name [name_u]Everly[/name_u], which has become rather popular recently. There’s nothing WRONG with it… It is just not my style. I hate the “[name_m]Ly[/name_m]” ending on most names, and there’s something about the sound of “ever” that just does not work for me.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f]: I don’t think it’d be too bad if I didn’t know six little girls with the name all born within a span of a year or so. I love the long “A” sound in names but I find [name_f]Ava[/name_f] to be just a bit bland.

[name_u]Noah[/name_u]: I’ve known a couple guys named [name_u]Noah[/name_u] growing up and I just never really seen the appeal. It kind of sounds a bit like when a child doesn’t get their way and they yell “No! uhhh!”

I in no way mean any disrespect to anyone who likes either of these names or to whom may have them, I just personally cannot get with them.

I don’t want to disrespect anyone it’s just that they’re not my type…

[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_f]Dolores[/name_f]
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_m]Aurelius[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]

[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Bear[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolf[/name_m]

[name_u]Prairie[/name_u]
Isodora
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]

After writing these down i noticed there are a lot of nature names! Maybe I am not as fond of them as I thought. The other names are just NMS I guess. As said before, lovely names, but not for me!

[name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m]…

[name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] etc.
I just do not understand how people find the “mad” prefix attractive. The word mad is not usually positive and I just can’t get over that.

[name_f]Soraya[/name_f]
To me this sounds like “sore eye uh” as in, having a sore eye. Really unattractive to me. [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] is a much better alternative imo.

Names like “[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]”
I just can’t stand edgy spellings of already existent names, and the poor kid is going to have it misspelled their entire life.

(Btw I’m not hating on anyone with these naming preferences, just not mine is all <3)

[name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m]… all of these kind of names just bore me to death! They are so over used. There’s thousands and thousands of names to choose from, why do people get so repetitive?? You don’t even have to use “crazy” names to be different. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a little originality goes a long way.

I feel the same way about Everly, and I’m also not a fan of Ava, Mia or Isla, all of which are very popular in Australia. There’s nothing wrong with them, they just don’t appeal to me for whatever reason. I’m also not a fan of Hazel, which is odd because I like so many names that fall within the same category (vintage/classic). Another in that category that I actually dislike is Nora. I don’t know why, it just doesn’t appeal to me. Imogen is another I dislike for a reason I can’t quite pinpoint.

For boys, I’m not a fan of names like Ethan, Logan, Carter, Aidan, Mason and Cooper. Nothing wrong with them, they just aren’t my cup of tea. And whilst Jackson is fine (and I love Jack), I dislike Jaxon or any other alternate spelling of the name.

That’s it off the top of my head. And as others have said, I mean no disrespect at all in bringing these names up. They’re perfectly good names, just not my style.

Nothing against anyone with one of these names or who likes these names, but I have never understood the popularity of [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f], or [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] for girls and [name_m]Axel[/name_m], [name_u]Kayden[/name_u], [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]/[name_m]Jaxson[/name_m], [name_m]Colton[/name_m], or [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] for boys. There are plenty of trendy names that I wouldn’t personally choose, but that I can kind of see the appeal for. Not so with this handful of Top 100 names.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] have to quickly mention [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
There is something about the name that irritates me, and it is so popular I just do not understand. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is very cute to me and I don’t see why people needed to extend it to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]. I’m truly bewildered at the Nameberry love this one gets.
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Maple[/name_f], just so sad sounding and frumpy.

Okay so I have heard [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] twice today so I had to mention it. For me the double “s” sound at the start is just too much! “s” is a very pretty sound, one of my favourites, but double s ruins the softness and quality of it for me.

Also @llewthewolf I have to agree about [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]! It just reminds me way too much of an otter, which is cute, but not for a human name.

Oh I have so many, this might turn out to be a bit of a rant. Sorry! I honestly don’t mean any disrespect here, promise!

There are a few popular names that I just can’t get behind due to me knowing some not so pleasant people who share them. i.e, [name_m]Stephen[/name_m], [name_f]Melanie[/name_f], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f].

Others are so saturated that they’ve lost any and all appeal they might have once held. i.e, [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].

Then there are a few that I just don’t like the sound of. i.e, [name_m]George[/name_m] [jaw-j? - ew], [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [NO! uh? - yuck], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [m*leste? - shudder].

And a few that I don’t like the look of. i.e, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [violent?], [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [a lice?], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [poopy?], [name_f]Melody[/name_f] [m’lady?].

[name_u]James[/name_u] & [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - Too many bad associations with the name.

[name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Micheal[/name_m], [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] & [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]

[name_u]Brayden[/name_u] - I had this name on my list for at least a decade before my nephew was born. His name Brᴀɛdɛn.

I won’t use any of my nieces’ or nephews’ first names as I don’t want to be choosing one over the rest, nor do I want to have 2 close cousins with the same name. The other 3 are Scᴀrlɛtt, Jᴀck and Violɛt.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f]: I don’t know why, but I just don’t like this one.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]: It’s an adorable name, but I hate the popularity.

[name_u]Madison[/name_u]: All the _son names are for guys, not girls. Besides, I know a bratty person named [name_u]Madison[/name_u] “Madi.”

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]: [name_m]Way[/name_m], way, way too popular! I prefer [name_f]Sofie[/name_f] anyhow.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like a lot of names that start with ‘B’ for girls for some reason like [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] though [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] has started to grow on me.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] not fond of [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Josh[/name_m]/[name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_m]Brendan[/name_m], [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Donald[/name_m], [name_m]Mark[/name_m], [name_m]Todd[/name_m], [name_m]Brent[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] but not sure why.

Not sure which of these are considered popular. They’re just what I thought of

They are everywhere! I enjoy seeing different names and creativity.
