Popular VS Rare Name

I’d let this be the deciding factor. I’m one of four siblings and definitely the odd name out; I’ve always found it strange that my siblings all have classic, top 50 biblical names while mine is a Welsh oddity that usually falls somewhere in the 500s. Which isn’t to say that I wish my name was [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so that I could match, but I do like the idea of sibsets where the names are in the same general popularity range.

I personally prefer Ellora to [name_f]Emily[/name_f], but if your tastes lean more toward simple/classic/popular then I’d use [name_f]Emily[/name_f].

If you’re really stuck, then definitely use things like how it flows with your surname/middle name choice, family connections, etc as tiebreakers.

I would go for the more unique name! My name is [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], which is not incredibly rare but I have only met one other [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] in person in my entire life! Growing up it made me feel special. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the other day when I answered the phone at work and said, “This is [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], how can I help you?” The mans response was “Wow, nice name!” Everyone is different but I really like having a unique name, so for me personally I really want to give my children special names, so they will feel special. [name_m]Even[/name_m] when I do see the name [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] around, it makes me happy

I was going to reply and say that a more unusual name would be best. However, speaking as an [name_f]Emily[/name_f], I have always loved my name despite its popularity and even now I wouldn’t change it for the world.
So basically what I’m trying to say is; some names you connect to for the name themselves rather than the popularity. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t give a name just because it’s rare, or avoid a name just because it’s popular. Go for whichever you genuinely feel would serve your child best and ignore the other standings.

I would wait until you see the baby, and see if when you look at your baby the name just comes to you

So which did you choose?

I chose the name Ellora for my first daughter when I was 11 years old, and in the years from then until i had her at 27 i never once heard of or meet anyone by that name. Until the week before she was born and i was at a kid’s birthday party! I was SO upset, i went home and sobbed. There are actually 4 girls named Ellora/Allora/Alaura in my small two. …

Having said that, I have no regrets. [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] introducing my Ellora (now six) to everyone. We call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as well. I also have a [name_f]Willow[/name_f] (which i also picked at age 11,and turns out to be super trendy right now),and just gave birth to a daughter named [name_u]Evan[/name_u] (whom we call Evanie).

I would definitely go with Ellora. The name [name_f]Emily[/name_f] has been used so much over the last 20 years worldwide that it’s almost a joke.

On the other hand, you could try to find a middle ground. I suggest [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Elisa[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Emelia[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
