[name]How[/name] popular do you think the following are going to get before they start declining in popularity? Are any headed for top 10? top 50?
[name]Juliet[/name] - It was ranked nationally in the 900s in the 1980s and 1990s, then (combined with the [name]Juliette[/name] spelling) has increased from about 360 in 2000 to 172 in 2011. In my state (NJ), it’s not in the top 100 but had over 90 occurrences the past few years after only 30-60 occurrences per year in the earlier 2000s, 20-30 occurrences each year in the 1990s, and under 10 occurrences per year in the 1980s.
[name]Genevieve[/name] - It was ranked nationally in the 400s in the 1980s and 1990s, then has increased from 435 in 2000 to 241 in 2011. In my state, it had 33 occurrences in 2011 after 20-30 occurrences a year in the earlier 2000s, 15-20 occurrences a year in the 1990s, and between 10 and 20 occurrences per year in the 1980s.
[name]Eloise[/name] - It wasn’t even ranked nationally in the top 700 or so until 2009, and since then it has moved quickly up to #433. In my state, there are still under 5 occurrences per year the last five or six years, but it had under 5 occurrences per year before 2005.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - It was ranked nationally about 300 in the 1980s and 1990s and has gone from 290 in 2000 to 55 in 2011. In my state, it was ranked 26 in 2011 with over 200 occurrences, after 100 occurrences in 2005 and only 30-40 occurrences a year in the 1990s and under 20 occurrences a year in the 1980s.
I know I seem anal by figuring all this out, but I find it kind of interesting in a nerdy way, and I also strongly want to avoid a top 10 or top 20 name (preferably even top 50 or top 100, which I realize is impossible in the case of [name]Charlotte[/name] and maybe even [name]Juliet[/name]).
Also, I know my son is [name]James[/name], which is one of the most popular, classic boy names, and for some reason with boy names popularity didn’t bother me in the least. Girl names are a totally different story!
Thanks all.
