Popularity of Landon?

Well husband and I finally agreed on a name we both dont hate- [name]Landon[/name]/[name]Landen[/name]. The only problem is we didnt want anything too popular and the ranking for landon is 34 (even higher on some other baby name sites). We just didnt want to choose a name that other children in his class would have. But I have never met someone named landon so it seemed weird for it to be that common to me as we have lived in 4 different states. So my question is- Is landon a really popular name where you live and do you think popularity should matter when choosing a name for your child? Also we were thinking of changing it to [name]Landis[/name]. It is still similar but a little different and definitely less common. Does that sound too feminine for a boy or just too weird? Any other options that are similar to [name]Landon[/name]?
We would definitely appreciate your help. Thank you!!

I’ve only met one [name]Landon[/name], so I don’t think it’s too popular around here. I definitely like [name]Landon[/name] better than [name]Landis[/name]!

I have never met a [name]Landon[/name] in person, but I do know someone on a name forum who actually lives in my town, and she has a [name]Landon[/name]. Does that count? lol. We’ve never met in real life but we went to the same college, often visit the same places, etc., so I feel like it should count, haha. I don’t think it’s too popular–once you get out of the top 10, names stop being rabidly popular, I think. My favorite boys’ name–[name]Caleb[/name]–ranks similarly to [name]Landon[/name] (just one spot below [name]Landon[/name], actually!), and I would absolutely use it. I don’t know any little boys named [name]Caleb[/name], and even though it’s familiar, it’s not rabidly popular. Same with [name]Landon[/name]. I’ve always had a thing for [name]Landon[/name], actually, so I would just go for that, if you love it! [name]Landis[/name] is nice, but it feels like you’re trying to hard. :frowning:

Good luck!

Well, popularity matters to me. I would prefer a name that is no where near the top 100, but if I love a name, and my spouse agrees with it, I might have to bend my rule on that.
[name]Landis[/name] is okay, it is definitely different. [name]Landis[/name] is more my style than [name]Landon[/name] is, since I am always looking for names that nobody else is using.
You have both agreed on [name]Landon[/name] though, and it is tough to find a name. I don’t think it is that popular, but we do know a couple that named their baby boy [name]Landon[/name] around this time last year…

Maybe you would like [name]Landry[/name]?

As a die-hard fan of [name]Little[/name] House on the [name]Prairie[/name], I think [name]Landon[/name] is great because of [name]Michael[/name] [name]Landon[/name]! However, although I don’t know any Landons personally, I do think the name has a trendy, popular sound. The name itself may not be overly popular, but I feel like the style itself is popular. I think [name]Landis[/name] sounds unique, and is nice and easy to spell and pronounce. To me it feels like a name out of a child storybook…I think it reminds me of the sign above [name]Winnie[/name] the Pooh’s door that said “Mr. [name]Sanders[/name].” Not that [name]Landis[/name] and [name]Sanders[/name] are very similar…?! [name]Just[/name] the first picture that popped into my mind when I heard the name.

I never met a [name]Landon[/name], but I knew a friend whose cousin’s name is [name]Landon[/name]. I prefer the [name]Landyn[/name] spelling though.

Here in the southern USA every other boy is [name]Landon[/name]. I know two personally and I even met a girl one [name]Landyn[/name] and since then the name seems so feminine to me.I used to like it, but now I hear it everywhere and am tired of it already, so glad hubby nixed it as a ‘pretty boy name’. I am really surprised it wasn’t in the top ten. With that said, if you love it and agree on it and popularity doesn’t bother you use it.

I have never met a [name]Landon[/name] but one of my friend’s knowns one. Also just to add I live in [name]Canada[/name]. Not a big fan of [name]Landis[/name], I think [name]Landon[/name] is a nice name!

Have you looked at the new SSA list? It didn’t drop by much, but it did drop by a spot or two… I don’t know if that makes you feel better about the name or not, haha.

I personally think that it is getting popular. I have friends who are having a baby in [name]August[/name] and they are naming him [name]Landen[/name]. It’s a nice enough name, but I have no idea where it came from. All of a sudden, I feel like I see it everywhere. I am personally very anti-popularity, so I would advise you to steer clear of it. That’s just my opinion, though!

I know 13 Landons all under the age of 5! It and [name]Logan[/name] are the most popular names and my town. I actually know two sets of twins named [name]Landon[/name] and [name]Logan[/name] lol. They are listed as 4 and 5 in my state. So I personally am very turned off by both names.

I live in the SW and I’ve heard of two. [name]One[/name] is in my son’s 4-year-old class, and the other is in my nephew’s 6-year-old class.

Thank you for all the input! I do like the name but I am not in love with it because I never wanted a really popular name (nothing in the top 50 (or even teh top 100 if i could help it). But unfortunately it seems to be the only one hubby and i can agree on. I am thinking of suggesting lawton and layton and seeing if those appeal to him at all. A little less popular with the same feel but less ‘out there’ than landis. I am also trying to get him to come around to some of my faves- [name]Elias[/name], [name]Callan[/name], [name]Cason[/name], [name]Rylan[/name], [name]Alden[/name]. So far its not working…maybe if I say it enough he will come around

I know tons of Landons, both male and female
I don’t think [name]Landis[/name] is out there. [name]Just[/name] yesterday on the radio a mom wished a happy 18th b-day to her son [name]Landis[/name]
Prefer [name]Lawson[/name] over [name]Lawton[/name]
I also like the suggestion of [name]Landry[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Lytton[/name]
[name]Langston[/name]
[name]Linton[/name]

I prefer [name]Landis[/name], but [name]Landon[/name] is nice as well and I’ve only met 2 Landons ever (one when I was a kid and one is the child of a friend).

I love in the South, and the name [name]Landon[/name] is very popular. However, it is much more important for you to have a name that you love, whether it is popular or not. [name]Landon[/name] is a nice name, so best of luck deciding whether or not it works for you:)

I love the name [name]Landon[/name]. At my children’s school, there is only one [name]Landon[/name]. If you and your husband love the name, I say go for it.

[name]Landon[/name] is super trendy – I know several…but if you like it, then who cares? I see this post is old, so I’m guessing you have decided/he is here! What did you pick? I’m curious, as we are naming our baby boy [name]Landis[/name] (searching his name on here led me to this thread:)

I like [name]Landon[/name], and I only know one - a 20-something year old guy! [name]Haven[/name]'t meant any youngin Landons yet (I live in BC, [name]Canada[/name] though, not the south where it seems very popular!). I would also suggest [name]Langdon[/name], [name]Landry[/name], [name]Linton[/name], [name]Linden[/name], [name]Lincoln[/name].
