I’m getting married in [name_u]August[/name_u] and I know I wouldn’t be able to change my first name right away, but already I’m struggling with how my married name sounds with my given name. I like my married name more than my given name so that’s why I don’t want to just keep my maiden name. [name_f]My[/name_f] married name starts with “Suh-” and is two syllables so I’m working with [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] Suh- AND I have speech impediments so unless I’m focused it becomes [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] Shuh-
As I’ve always felt some kind of “name dysphoria” with [name_u]Shelby[/name_u], I think it’s the best reason I’ve have to change it. [name_f]My[/name_f] dad who named me said he wouldn’t me bothered though he’s always call me [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] as he’s older and has a had a stroke so it’d just be too much to ask him to call me something else which is reasonable. But I don’t expect my wider family to call me anything but [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] just because they wouldn’t put in the work to learn a new name so I feel like I should put my full given name in the middle spot so calling me [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] isn’t totally unfounded with my new name.
But finding names to sound good before “Shelby Rose” is difficult, my ideas so far being
- [name_u]Willow[/name_u] [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] S.
- [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] S.
I would prefer a name not ending in A, not starting or ending with S or S sounds, and has nicknames if anyone has suggestions. Any thoughts or advice appreciated too.
