My husband and I are going to start TTC #2 in [name_u]July[/name_u] and all I can think about are names. Our son’s name is [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. Any thoughts on the names below and how they pair with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] ([name_u]Sam[/name_u]). Suggestions for middle name pairs? Or other names we might like would be amazing. We have a terribly hard time with boy names.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Dean[/name_u], it’s the perfect mix of handsome classic and old school cool! Some ideas from your list:
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]: great name and [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and such cute brothers! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your combo [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m].
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]: also makes a great pair with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]! [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u] are so sweet together as the 3 letter nicknames match without being cutesy. [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m] works well too.
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m]: the most different to [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] stylistically to me but I think they still work together. [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is my fave combo from your list.
@kityne: [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] is a bit out of left field for us and isn’t one of our top contenders, but my husband and I still both like it. Which with boy names is a small miracle. I like [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] from your list. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] isn’t too unusual or too common and goes well with my son’s name.
@greyblue: [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] are our favorites too. I love [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] ([name_m]Aaron[/name_m] is very personal to me, but have a harder time pairing it). I love the idea of [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. And [name_u]Sam[/name_u] & [name_m]Ben[/name_m] sound like brothers.
@wilkie8709: I love [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m]. I also like the idea of [name_m]Connor[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Aaron[/name_m].
Thank you guys so much for helping me come up with new ideas and name pairings. It is so helpful.
I love [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Dean[/name_u]!
Here are my thoughts on your list:
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]-I think it works. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] & [name_m]Charles[/name_m] are both old fashioned names, even though I see [name_m]Charles[/name_m] as a little more stuffy. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] & [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] are sweet for brothers. I also like the nn [name_u]Cal[/name_u] for [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]-This is handsome. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] & [name_u]Max[/name_u] seem like a natural pairing.
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m]-Meh, I don’t care for that. It’s just kind of trendy to me.
Suggestions:
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Archer[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]-I know it doesn’t make that much sense that I like this and not [name_m]Gavin[/name_m]. [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] just seems sweeter for some reason.
@wilkie8709:
I love the addition of [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_u]August[/name_u] is also a family name for us. I also hadn’t really thought about [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m] ([name_m]Henry[/name_m]) as a first name and I like it paired with [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. I just have to decide if I like it with our last name. Since they both start with H.
@michellem:
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] is a bit stuffier than [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], but I love the nickname [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and hope that [name_m]Charles[/name_m] would grow on me like [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] did (loved [name_u]Sam[/name_u], but [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] sounded like a bit of a mouthful to me before he was born, but now that I say it a million times a day, I love it just as much as [name_u]Sam[/name_u]). I also love the thought of a [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_u]Sam[/name_u] pair. I do worry that [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] is trendier than the names we usually like. I love the addition of [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], and [name_u]Owen[/name_u](was one of my other favorites when I was expecting [name_u]Sam[/name_u]).
I agree with pp that [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] is not as nice as your other options, so I would start by cutting that. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] are adorable, and they do sound like brothers, but I also feel like they’re very “expected” which would maybe bother me. I love traditional names, but when you put too many of them together I think it starts to sound boring rather than nice and classic.
From your original list, that leaves [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], which would be great. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u] are perfect.
I love that you are now considering [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. I especially like [name_m]Miles[/name_m] with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. Would you consider [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as a first name? [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] seem like a good set to me.
Other ideas:
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_m]Gareth[/name_m] (kind of like [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], but cooler)
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] nn [name_u]Cal[/name_u]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] nn [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
My first thought was [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. I think that goes so well with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]/ [name_u]Sam[/name_u]!
I also like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m].
In the movie [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] St [name_u]Cloud[/name_u] there are two brothers named [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_u]Sam[/name_u], but that is only a connection in the back of my mind. I think the fictional brothers just show how well those names go together
