Potential Issues with Vivi and the Letter K

[name]Vivi[/name]:

We’re hoping to start trying to conceive in the next three to five years and have fallen completely in love with [name]Vivi[/name] as a given name. I can’t help but notice how [name]Vivian[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name] have been climbing, along with a general creativity concerning nicknames. It isn’t that I’m afraid my [name]Vivi[/name] will be one of 19,000 with the same name, but will the nickname [name]Vivi[/name] be too popular to use the name?

The Letter K:

My name is [name]Katie[/name] and my SO’s name is [name]Kevin[/name]. We’re constantly told how cute it is that we have the same first initial, but about half of the names on our boy’s list also begin with K. I doubt that many people would SQUEE about K, K, and K. I don’t necessarily dislike family initials - I think it’s tacky and weird when people actively try to do it, but we just happen to like these names. Are they all completely out just because a few hateful people exist? I can’t control that, but I don’t want to deal with comments and glares because I can eradicate racism and hate and just don’t feel like it. I really don’t understand the judgement there, I just figured I’d ask for opinions.

I highly doubt anyone will think it’s a racist reference. It’s not like you’re doing triple K initals for the child. I’m pretty sure no one thought it was racist when [name]Kris[/name](then Kardashian) had a [name]Kourtney[/name], and [name]Kimberley[/name].

You’re right, few people would notice and even fewer would care. Thank you for replying!

I have a [name]Vivian[/name], and I frequently call her [name]Viv[/name] or [name]Vivi[/name]… and you are right… it is an adorable nick name into a name. She is spunky little baby with lots to say and her name fits her perfectly. I have not met any other little Vivians/Vivs/Vivis in my travels, so I cannot speak to its popularity. I think if you get hung up on the popularity (or unpopularity) you can talk yourself out of name that you have grown to love.

You’re completely right… what does it matter that a few thousand other children have a similar name? That’s a few thousand in the entire country, not in the state, or even region and we do really love it I think more than any other name we’ve seen. Thank you!

There’s nothing wrong with that. My cousins are named: [name]Stefanie[/name], [name]Samantha[/name], [name]Sidni[/name], and [name]Sumer[/name]. Their mom is [name]Vicki[/name] and dad is [name]Steve[/name], but for some reason they went with all S names. I think it’s perfectly fine and cute.

My cousin will probably have the same problem as you do since her name is [name]Amy[/name] and she is married to Ayax, so I bet when she has a baby we’ll all be pushing A names, haha, but it’s whatever you are comfortable with.

As for popularity, I don’t think that’s an issue at all. I knew tons of [name]Sarah[/name]'s, [name]Emily[/name]'s, and [name]Katie[/name]'s in my school. I have never ran into a [name]Vivi[/name]. It’s all about where you live and how much you personally care, because honestly no one is going to care…

First of all, using a nickname as a given name, in the case of [name]Vivi[/name], is a great way to freshen up a name. As a given name, [name]Vivi[/name] definitely isn’t too popular to use. Then concerning the letter K: as you mentioned yourself, people aren’t too likely to notice the K initials. It would’ve been much more noticeable if you were planning on triplet K’s or if your last name was a K name. So I think that [name]Vivi[/name] and K names are both fine!
