Hey, as of [name]Saturday[/name] I will begin attempting to potty train my 2 year old. She has gone on the potty once in awhile over the last couple months, so I know she is capable of it, but I never really pushed her to do it because I was hoping she would just decide that she wanted to. She is quite an independent spirited little girl; her favourite word is “myself” because she wants to do everything herself. She even changes her own diaper- which is what makes me think she is probably really ready to start training.
So I was just wondering if any of you experienced moms (or just others with childcare experience) have any tips for me? Methods that worked, things that didn’t, what I can expect, etc?
I trained my daughter in a day. The key was underwear…no pull-ups. They usually don’t like the feeling of wetting their underwear. I devoted the whole day to doing nothing else. I put the potty chair in the middle of the living room and we played in the living room all day…as soon as she started to go I would quickly bring her to the potty chair. I used stickers and candy corn for rewards. By the end of the day she was going there on her own. I was dreading potty training for so long and then it turned out to be pretty easy! [name]Hope[/name] it is for you as well! Sounds like she is ready. Good luck!
I have not gone through it yet with my twins, but I have heard people swear by the 3 [name]Day[/name] Potty Training method. If you google it the website will come up. I am planning on trying it with my boys when they show signs of readiness.
Coming from daycare experience the key is being consistence no matter what! They don’t want to be wet and dirty and they need to be able to tell you when they feel the need to go. Good luck!
