Prairie: Hard to say clearly?

[name]Do[/name] the R’s in [name]Prairie[/name] make it difficult to say nicely? I like the idea of [name]Prairie[/name] as a middle name for a girl–that is, I like it in looks and I like the [name]Little[/name] House on the [name]Prairie[/name] connection that has particularly special meaning for me and my husband–but it doesn’t flow off my tongue very nicely. Does it feel like the R’s slur together? (Try saying “[name]Perry[/name]” aloud, then say “[name]Prairie[/name]” aloud, and you will feel the difference!) I have no idea which first name it would go with on our list. Maybe…

[name]Sylvia[/name] [name]Prairie[/name]
[name]Winola[/name] [name]Prairie[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Prairie[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] (<< clunky?)

In reality it is unlikely that we’ll use Prairie given our list of other favorites, but I’d love to hear thoughts on it. Haven’t presented the idea to my husband yet, but he’s almost a bigger Little House fan than I am, so I suspect he may like it.

it is a little hard to say, especially the more you say it, but as you would use it in the middle name slot an only being saying it once at a time, I don’t think it will be a problem. Especially if it has meaning to you. It is kind of cute and spunky

Hmm, maybe for Americans? My r’s are so subtle, it’s fine. I think [name]Prairie[/name] is beautiful.

I like [name]Winola[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] best of your combos, they go together very well, I imagine a little girl in a bonnet on the prairie. [name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] is second, it gives me almost the same feel. [name]Sylvia[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] is pretty as well, but [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] is a complete conflict in sound and feel. [name]Elspeth[/name] is such a buttoned up old lady name, and [name]Prairie[/name] is carefree running around with ribbons flying everywhere.

I think it fine. Maybe it’s just me, but I have no difficulty saying it. I like it as a middle a lot! My favorites of your combos are [name]Winola[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] and [name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Prairie[/name].

I like it. Subtle and sweet. It doesn’t sound strange in my accent at all, which is a bit of a Commonwealth/American hybrid. I really like [name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Prairie[/name]. I do agree that [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] is lacking a little in flow. Maybe Elsabeth?

I can say [name]Prairie[/name] just fine now, but as a child it would have been a mess. My r’s sounded like w’s. Pwaiwee.

I think [name]Prairie[/name] is lovely! Pronunciation shouldn’t be a problem, especially if it is going to be a middle name.

[name]One[/name] of my favourite nature name, I think [name]Prairie[/name] is so pretty.
The pronounciation’s fine for me.

It might depend on accent, but i think its fine. I love it in fact. And im seriously crushing on [name]Winola[/name] [name]Prairie[/name] and [name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Prairie[/name], they are fabulous combinations.

I love it! I could see how it might be a little hard for some to pronounce clearly, but for me it’s easier to say than some of the more popular names, like [name]Aurora[/name]
