Precious Stone Names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I’m just planning for a one-day baby. [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious as what the Nameberry community thinks of all the precious stone/element names:

[name_f]Amber[/name_f]
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]
[name_f]Beryl[/name_f]
[name_f]Bijou[/name_f]
Citrine
[name_f]Crystal[/name_f]
[name_f]Diamond[/name_f]
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f]
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Golda[/name_f]/[name_f]Goldie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ivory[/name_u]
[name_f]Jacinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Jewel[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f]
[name_f]Turquoise[/name_f]

[name_f]Stella[/name_f] here!

I don’t particularly like many precious stone names, so I’ll give feedback on my favourites.
Favourites:
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f] - I love this name because it’s unique and sounds very elegant. My friend also wrote a book on a website recently and used the name [name_f]Garnet[/name_f].
[name_u]Ivory[/name_u] - I love [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] for the same reasons, and [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] reminds me of freshness and cool, running water for some reason.
[name_f]Jade[/name_f] - I somewhat like this name because it’s a name that’s pretty versatile. I knew a [name_f]Jade[/name_f] in elementary school who was a quiet bookworm and her name quite fit her. I then knew a [name_f]Jade[/name_f] in high school who had a band that covered punk rock songs and she rocked the name [name_f]Jade[/name_f] as well.

I also love [name_f]Garnet[/name_f]! It’s used as a (rare) male name in some parts of the U.S., so some people don’t like the ambiguity, but I think it’s wonderful. [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is lovely and on the rise — it was on my shortlist and I’m really glad I didn’t choose it, because I’ve since had three acquaintances name their daughters [name_f]Gemma[/name_f].

From your list, I think [name_f]Amber[/name_f], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] and [name_f]Jewel[/name_f] sound a little dated. All fine names, just not exciting, and a gemstone name that doesn’t sparkle isn’t worth it.

Really like: [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f], [name_f]Jacinda[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (though [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is pretty popular)

NMS, but I think I’d be charmed to meet one: [name_f]Beryl[/name_f], [name_f]Bijou[/name_f], Citrine, [name_f]Emerald[/name_f], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]

[name_f]Diamond[/name_f] is too much for me, like [name_u]Lexus[/name_u] or other status symbols. [name_f]Golda[/name_f]/[name_f]Goldie[/name_f] is not that attractive to me, plus it’s so closely associated with a few famous ones. [name_f]Topaz[/name_f] and [name_f]Turquoise[/name_f] are bold choices and prettier stones than names, so I don’t know they’re worth the trouble. [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] seems like an awkward choice because of the very real problem of elephant poaching, plus the association with the soap brand.

Here are some that I didn’t see listed. Although, not my favorites like those listed above.

[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_u]Onyx[/name_u]
[name_f]Peridot[/name_f]
[name_f]Agate[/name_f]
Citrine
[name_f]Lapis[/name_f]
[name_f]Mala[/name_f]
Lazuli
[name_f]Olivine[/name_f]
[name_f]Almandine[/name_f]
[name_f]Crystal[/name_f]

I know an [name_f]Emerald[/name_f], and the name suits her quite well!
Also love [name_f]Opal[/name_f]. I would agree that [name_f]Amber[/name_f], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], and [name_f]Jewel[/name_f] are a little dated.

I love [name_f]Emerald[/name_f], [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (my birthstone). I like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and [name_f]Jade[/name_f]. I’m not really a fan of the others.

[name_f]Amber[/name_f] - I think it’s a cool name.
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]- No. There is a limit in using stone/elements as names.
[name_f]Beryl[/name_f] - No
[name_f]Bijou[/name_f] - ??!!
Citrine - no
[name_f]Crystal[/name_f] - I think this name is either perfect or horrible. It is pretty and different.
[name_f]Diamond[/name_f] - mixed feelings about this name. Maybe as a middle name.
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f] - again maybe as a middle name but it may (in few cases) be a perfect first name.
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f] - not fond of this.
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] - beautiful. This is one of my favourites on the list.
[name_f]Golda[/name_f]/[name_f]Goldie[/name_f] - no
[name_u]Ivory[/name_u] - I think it’s nice but I don’t love it. Maybe as a middle name.
[name_f]Jacinda[/name_f] - it’s just got the wrong feel for me.
[name_f]Jade[/name_f] - I think this is a cool fun name. It’s got an outgoing side to it and isn’t super girly but remains feminine.
[name_f]Jewel[/name_f] - not seeing it.
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] - I don’t know. It’s an interesting name. Maybe.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - if used I would put it as a middle name. It just feels dated to me though.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - beautiful! My favourite on the list! It’s just an adorable name for a little girl but ages well.
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] - makes me think of the movie The Sapphires  maybe as a middle name.
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f] - no not fond of this
[name_f]Turquoise[/name_f] - it’s a beautiful colour but I wouldn’t name my child this.
