Predict Violet's path

It has skyrocketed from obscurity, is a character in several pop-culture films, and is the name of several celebrity babies. What do you think will happen with this name 5 years, 10 years, 15 years from now? Is it going to plummet back into obscurity just as quickly, or does this have real staying power?

I think [name]Violet[/name] will continue to grow in popularity, but I don’t think by very much. It’s already at 123 or 124, and it takes quite a bit to get a name into the top 100. [name]Violet[/name] doesn’t have the same universal appeal that [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Gabriella[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], or [name]Grace[/name] has, so I think it won’t really get past the number 80 spot, if that. I think it’ll about plateau in about 5 years, and slowly start to fade. 15 years from now, I would think that it’d be in the lower half of the top 1000, but I don’t think it’ll be completely gone. I mean, look at some of the names that were really popular in the 80s. [name]Ashley[/name] is still in the top 30, as far as I know. Several of the others in the top 10-20 are still in the top 100 now. It takes a while for a really popular name to go out of style. Once a name is well-received and loved, even after some are tired of it, a lot of others really love it still and really want to use it.

I love [name]Violet[/name] but I definitely think it is headed straight for the top. I can definitely see it being a future top 10 name. I hope this is not the case but it seems like everywhere I turn I am seeing Violets so it seems to be getting very popular to me.

I actually think this one will skyrocket. Its unique but familiar, just a little out there but not too much, which I think gives it a lot of appeal to all types of namers.

I think it will filter down like [name]Ava[/name] or [name]Sophia[/name], years ago these were names mainly Celebs and a select few considered, then people who like offbeat names took hold of them and turned the “general population” onto names that once seemed like a big risk. I can see the same thing happening here especially since its getting some play on TV (American Horror [name]Story[/name]) and there’s been a return to vintage/feminine names.

*I dont see it entering top 10 or maybe even 50 because I dont think the appeal is that universal but I think eventually most people will know one or two little Violets but it’s not going to happen overnight either.

dillonsfan01 - where are you that you’re hearing [name]Violet[/name] all the time? I’ve heard of a few online, but haven’t actually met one yet. But I don’t run in big baby circles.

I am not so sure and like [name]Ash[/name] said it takes a long time…I haven’t met any baby Violets…or know of any born…its cute

I could see it getting more popular, but I don’t think [name]Violet[/name] will break the top 50.

Wanted to say I think a good indicator of a name’s potential popularity can be found on yahoo questions. If you see people looking for opinions on a name and the other options on their list are what you consider “nameberry” names then its probably not getting a lot of wide circulation. If you see it listed with tryndy names or very popular choices then its probably reaching a much wider audience then you realized.

It’s not an exact science (obviously) but the results are usually pretty interesting.
