Would you pronounce it [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-uh (with [name_f]Mar[/name_f] as in car) or with the sound as in marriage that rhymes with [name_u]Dara[/name_u]/[name_f]Tara[/name_f]/[name_f]Kara[/name_f]? I was trying to search online for a youtube of the pronunciation and found the below of the actress [name_m]Rooney[/name_m] [name_f]Mara[/name_f] with “marriage” sound. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like this version?

I think it is not a strong “air” sound. More like maaar-ah. I agree [name_f]Mair[/name_f]-ah sounds weird.
Me, too! I’ve heard [name_f]MARE[/name_f]-ah before, too, but I find it really hard to say it that way. I have a coworker with this name (said like [name_f]MAR[/name_f]), so I think of [name_f]MARE[/name_f] even less now.
[name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Kara[/name_f], [name_f]Tara[/name_f], and [name_u]Dara[/name_u] are all pronounced the same to me. The sound as in car. I dont see how else they could be said I’m afraid

Honestly just depends on my mood whether I say it one way or the other. Right now, I’m feeling mar-uh (as in car), but ask me tomorrow and I might say mare-uh.
[name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f], [name_f]Tara[/name_f] etc are all AR and not [name_f]AIR[/name_f] to me (e.g. [name_f]MAR[/name_f]-uh, CAR-uh, LAR-uh, TAR-uh etc) and it’s how they’re all pronounced in [name_m]Britain[/name_m]. [name_f]Mara[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]MAIR[/name_f]-uh would get a lot of strange looks as calling someone a mare is an insult lol (much like calling someone a cow is, cheeky mare/lazy mare etc are used a lot).

[name_f]Mar[/name_f]-uh, like car. The other names you listed are all pronounced like car as well in my area, so I assume a softer “a” sound.
I had a student from South [name_f]Africa[/name_f] whose name was [name_f]Mara[/name_f] and she pronounced it [name_f]Mair[/name_f]-uh. Living in the States, the only way I’ve heard [name_f]Tara[/name_f] pronounced is Tair-uh, rhyming with [name_f]Sara[/name_f]. I HAVE known two [name_f]Karas[/name_f], one a Kair-uh and the other Kahr-uh (like Supergirl). But if I came across a new person named [name_f]Mara[/name_f], I would assume it rhymed with [name_f]Sara[/name_f]…just like [name_f]Farrah[/name_f], [name_u]Dara[/name_u], [name_f]Lara[/name_f]…I’ve never heard them pronounced like car, only like air.
I say MAW-ruh, and I believe that is the most widely accepted and instinctive pronunciation.

My name is [name_f]Mara[/name_f] and it is pronounced [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-uh (mar=car) I have been called [name_f]Mair[/name_f]-uh most of my life and have to correct practically everyone. As I grow older more and more people pronounce it correctly. 
Where I live, the first syllable of [name_f]Mara[/name_f] (and [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f], [name_f]Tara[/name_f], etc) rhymes with car (I have seen the [name_f]CLAIRE[/name_f]-uh pronunciation for [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and TARE-uh for [name_f]Tara[/name_f] on nameberry, but I’ve never heard them in real life, so they seem a little strange to me). I also personally prefer the sound of MAH-ruh over [name_f]MARE[/name_f]-uh.
I would expect [name_f]Marra[/name_f]/ Marrah to share a first syllable with marriage (rhymes with the first syllable of carriage). for [name_f]MARE[/name_f]-uh (rhymes with [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]), I would expect [name_f]Marah[/name_f] or [name_f]Maira/name_f.
I’m not in the USA, though, and what sounds right to my ear is likely to be influenced by my accent.
I’m guessing it depends some what on where you’re from. I’m in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] and I would say [name_f]Mair[/name_f]-ah intuitively, although I don’t know anyone by the name. I also pronounce [name_f]Kara[/name_f], [name_f]Tara[/name_f] etc the same way, with the air sound in the first syllable.
