Pregnant and debating between 3 names endlessly!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],

I’ve posted here since becoming pregnant a couple of times and think I’ve finally narrowed our list down to three names that we love:

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]

I think we both love each equally but I am concerned about the extreme popularity in Australia of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and I’m also worried that [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is going to keep rising in the charts (it was 66 last year and I know two little Freyas). On the other hand, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] isn’t in the top 100 and I’ve never met one, which is obviously a plus for the name.

Let me know what you think and why. I’m hoping others’ opinions might give me some clarity.

Thanks

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is beautiful and since it sounds like you are very concerned about popularity, it seems like your safest bet. Sometimes names are much more popular in particular pockets than they are nation-wide, and it looks that might be the situation with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] in your circles.

Although [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, from your choices, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is the one that stands out for me! A chic, modern twist to the classic [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], a little too out there for me (especially because of the titular character in the famous [name_m]Roald[/name_m] Dahl book), and I agree that mythological names such as [name_f]Freya[/name_f] are rising in popularity. So I would opt for [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].

If you are concerned about popularity, and love each name equally, then I agree that [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is the best choice for you. It’s classic, strong, and beautiful, with a modern sound, and I think it’s stunning.

All are beautiful! For what it’s worth I know (of) 2 Freyas, 3 Matildas and 3 Tillys, and 1 [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. My favourite is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]! I love the sound and how it looks. I love the nickname options too. And the fact that not every second little girl walks around wearing that name is a bonus!

I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is the best choice for you. It’s gorgeous!

My personal favourite is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], but if you truly love [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Freya[/name_f] more, I wouldn’t let popularity stop you from using them - they’re popular because they’re stunning names!

Popularity be damned, I’d still use [name_f]Freya[/name_f] as it’s a name I adore (the Norse mythology connection is a definite plus for me personally as well). [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] feels very patriotic to me because of Waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and the women’s soccer team, which is why I wouldn’t use it personally. I don’t mind [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], but [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is just so lovely I’d go with it anyway.

I really like all three names, but I think for you [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is probably the best choice as it is least popular.

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is the standout for me!

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is still my favourite, but that may be easy for me to say in the USA. The popularity clearly annoys you. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is not my cup of tea, and I wouldn’t use it just because it’s less common. But if I remember correctly, you have awhile until she comes? If you really like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], maybe start calling her that. Does it feel natural or do you still feel [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Freya[/name_f]? [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is great only if you love it just as much, and not settling just because it’s less popular.

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is so pretty! I’d totally use it if I knew my family wouldn’t butcher it. lol. I live in Oklahoma, USA. The name is unheard of here.

I would choose [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] still feels very hipster to me as an American, and I have a hard time viewing [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] as distinctive when it sounds and looks so much like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f].

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is the stand out name! I know a person with each of these names, but [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is the rarest in my opinion. I do like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] but the nickname [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] is one I can’t resonate with! And [name_f]Freya[/name_f] I do like but it’s not my favourite!

My favourite is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. I’m not sure why [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] just doesn’t do anything for me, but it’s still pretty and if popularity concerns you then perhaps you should go for it. I personally think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is more popular than [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] though.

I would choose [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. Put them together:

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]!
If you don’t have a middle name in mind [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is beautiful

I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f]! So beautiful

I personally love [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] because I have met a few young girls named [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and it’s honestly really cute. They had nicknames like [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], [name_f]Tildy[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], etc.

Thank you for all of your opinions and contributions, it’s been really helpful! I suppose I made it clear (without quite realising it!) in my original post that popularity bothers me so I guess I answered my question myself, particularly as I do genuinely love each equally. So at the moment, for both my partner and I actually, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is the frontrunner. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] are both stunning and I’ll consider them, although I do wonder sometimes whether it’s a good idea to keep those names in case I have another daughter some day! Anyway, thanks again everyone
