Prenatal classes!

Hey all,
I’m 4 months pregnant. I’m so happy and eagerly waiting for the day when my baby will be in my arms. I don’t know anything about what to eat, what not to eat and also in different stages what we need to do. My friends asked me to join prenatal childbirth education classes in Toronto. I don’t know how the classes is gonna be. If anyone has taken any classes in their pregnancy time, please give suggestions.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

My doctor told me I could eat anything while I was pregnant. They want you to eat foods containing Iron, or take a prenatal vitamin with Iron. My husband and I went to prenatal classes. The woman running the classes is a lactation consultant, so she talked about breastfeeding, the correct breathing while in labor, what to expect while in labor, different forms of pain relief (epidural, water birth). I learned a lot when I went.

Most of those questions you listed, your doctor should have addressed and if not, talk to your doctor.

We took a child birth & newborn care class. Most of those classes only discuss the labor and birth and how to care for a newborn. They don’t really get into the nutrition and beginning pregnancy because doctors are supposed to cover that since it varies person to person.

I highly recommend the childbirth class though. It was very informative about what labor looks like, how to know you are in labor, how to handle pain in labor, different positions, etc. Our favorite part was the newborn care, things we didn’t even think about like how to swaddle a baby or how to hold a baby to calm it. If you never had a baby, knowing how to bathe and diaper it really comes in handy before you are sent home to figure it out for yourself!
