Problem? Opinions appreciated.

So hubby and I sat down and talked about names again. He’s still stuck on certain names. I have a new list of names I like but he will NOT budge. He insists on the names he’s stuck on. He’s made it very clear he wants [name]Kyle[/name] [name]Crispin[/name] and [name]Aubriana[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name].

I like those names but the more I look at them, the more I don’t want to use them.

Here’s my new list.

Boys:
[name]Cuyler[/name] [name]Thijs[/name] ([name]Kyler[/name] Thice)
[name]Koen[/name] [name]Liam[/name]
[name]Karsten[/name] [name]Everett[/name]/[name]Eliott[/name]
Caderyn [name]Everly[/name]
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Bryson[/name]
[name]Kieran[/name] [name]Ilya[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
Braven [name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Brendan[/name] [name]Michael[/name]

Girls:
[name]Devan[/name] Remianne
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhian[/name]
[name]Cassidy[/name] Lehann
[name]Tristan[/name] [name]Melanya[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name] Ulaylie
[name]Addisyn[/name] [name]Olesia[/name]
[name]Ellison[/name] [name]Ann[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Kamilah[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

I still [name]Love[/name] [name]Bronson[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] [name]Juliana[/name]

I have different tastes and I’m willing to compromise but hubby won’t.

[name]Don[/name]'t hold back, let me know what you think about these names.

Thanks!

I guess since your husband is stonewalling, you’re shutting down too. I know I always have that reaction when my husband refuses to budge!

I hope you really mean it when you say you want honesty. [name]Kyle[/name] and [name]Aubriana[/name] are okay – I’d give them maybe a high C.

Of your alternate choices, the only ones I like are [name]Kieran[/name] and [name]Brendan[/name] for boys, and [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Ellison[/name] for girls. The others are far too trendy and invented, in my opinion, and the adventurous spellings just crank up the trendiness and increase the difficulty for you and your child, basically forever. Stick with recognizable names spelled in easy-to-understand ways.

Good luck to you. I’m sure you and your husband will find choices you can agree on.

Thanks!

It seems that you and I have very different tastes in names. I don’t mean this offensively, but you seem to definitely be a fan of the yooneek way of spelling names, something I strongly encourage people not to do.

So, here are my comments. As for your husband’s names, [name]Kyle[/name] seems dated to me, like a name that was popular in the 1990s, whereas [name]Aubriana[/name] seems trendy ([name]Aubrey[/name]), as does [name]Mackenzie[/name].

As for your name list, here are my comments:

Boys:
[name]Cuyler[/name] [name]Thijs[/name] ([name]Kyler[/name] Thice) - I don’t care for this at all. [name]Kyler[/name], in any spelling, looks trendy and feminine. Sorry!

[name]Koen[/name] [name]Liam[/name] - I would definitely spell this [name]Cohen[/name], but overall it is fine. I think a longer middle name would work better, like [name]Cohen[/name] [name]William[/name].

[name]Karsten[/name] [name]Everett[/name]/[name]Eliott[/name] - [name]Karsten[/name] really isn’t my style. It looks made up and really isn’t that cute in my opinion. Sorry. [name]Carson[/name] [name]Everett[/name] would be better!

Caderyn [name]Everly[/name] - I really don’t think this is a name, so I’m not going to say any more. I don’t want to get myself in trouble!

[name]Carter[/name] [name]Bryson[/name] - This is fine. [name]Carter[/name] is a decent name. [name]Bryson[/name] isn’t my favorite, but it works!

[name]Kieran[/name] [name]Ilya[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] - [name]Kieran[/name] seems feminine to me, but I know it isn’t. I don’t think you need [name]Ilya[/name], but I actually really like this one.

Braven [name]Lucas[/name] - This just looks like “brave”. [name]Lucas[/name] Braven is cute!

[name]Brendan[/name] [name]Michael[/name] - Dated.

FAVORITES - [name]Cohen[/name] [name]William[/name], [name]Carson[/name] [name]Everett[/name], [name]Lucas[/name] Braven, [name]Kieran[/name] ([name]Ilya[/name]) [name]Alexander[/name]

Girls:
[name]Devan[/name] Remianne - [name]Devan[/name] is a fine unisex name, but I don’t think I like it for twins, which is what I think you are having. Correct me if I’m wrong. Unisex names make thinks more confusing for BG twins…

[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhian[/name] - [name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhiannon[/name] would be nice!

[name]Cassidy[/name] Lehann -I don’t really care for [name]Cassidy[/name], as it seems sort of childish, or Lehann (with any spelling!). Sorry!

[name]Tristan[/name] [name]Melanya[/name] -I love [name]Tristan[/name], for a boy!

[name]Eliana[/name] Ulaylie - [name]Eliana[/name] [name]EULALIE[/name]! I really wouldn’t spell this so peculiarly when it is already a unique name. It really isn’t necessary! This is cute and fresh and interesting = perfect!

[name]Addisyn[/name] [name]Olesia[/name] - [name]Addison[/name] [name]Olesia[/name], not [name]Addisyn[/name], please. And, [name]Addison[/name] is extremely popular and trendy right now…

[name]Ellison[/name] [name]Ann[/name]-[name]Marie[/name] - I think [name]Ellison[/name] looks masculine (as most names with -son on the end do), but I like [name]Ellis[/name] for a girl. [name]Ellis[/name] [name]Annamaria[/name] would be pretty, but it is still unisex.

[name]Kamilah[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - [name]Kamilah[/name] just isn’t my style, and I think [name]Camilla[/name] [name]Rose[/name] would be more elegant and sophisticated.

FAVORITES - [name]Eliana[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name], [name]Camilla[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhiannon[/name]

As for [name]Bronson[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] [name]Juliana[/name] - [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Juliana[/name] are so pretty, but [name]Ryan[/name] is far too masculine for a girl (especially a twin) and [name]Bronson[/name] seems a bit dated. [name]Cohen[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Rosa[/name] [name]Julianne[/name] would be cute!

Okay, so I really don’t mean to be harsh and rude in my comments, but I just don’t at all care for yooneek spellings. I understand that perhaps you are doing this because you think your child might stand out more in the crowd, but it just causes confusion, not to mention it makes you and your child look uneducated. Please think about it. That being said, my favorites of these names, with my suggestions, are:

[name]Eliana[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name] & [name]Carson[/name] [name]Everett[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name] [name]Rose[/name] & [name]Lucas[/name] Braven
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhiannon[/name] & [name]Kieran[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]

Best wishes to you and your family! Good luck!

No I’m not having twins, which I should have mentioned haha. Those two names were just names my hubby loves for a boy and girl.

[name]Cuyler[/name] [name]Thijs[/name] ([name]Kyler[/name] Thice)-I wanted to spell it [name]Kyler[/name] but I decided to go with the common spelling I saw.
[name]Koen[/name] [name]Liam[/name]- I like [name]Cohen[/name], I didn’t think of this spelling.
[name]Karsten[/name] [name]Everett[/name]/[name]Eliott[/name]-I like [name]Carson[/name] also. But when I saw [name]Karsten[/name], I don’t know. I liked it.
Caderyn [name]Everly[/name]-I like the name Caderyn…I think it’s pronounced Cayderin if not I’m not mistaken.
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Bryson[/name]-I wanted a —[name]Son[/name] middle name but nothing really fit and I think [name]Bryson[/name] fits well.
[name]Kieran[/name] [name]Ilya[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]-I absolutely love this name. [name]Both[/name] middle names and all.
Braven [name]Lucas[/name]-YES! I love [name]Lucas[/name] Braven much better!
[name]Brendan[/name] [name]Michael[/name]-I wasn’t sure what to put as a middle name. So I went with something simple.

Girls:
[name]Devan[/name] Remianne-I love the name [name]Devan[/name]. Actually I am IN love with the name [name]Devan[/name] =]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhian[/name]-I wanted to use Esmee but I think [name]Esme[/name] is better. I like [name]Rhian[/name] better than [name]Rhiannon[/name].
[name]Cassidy[/name] Lehann-I love Lehann, I actually made a mistake. I like [name]Leann[/name] better than Lehann.
[name]Tristan[/name] [name]Melanya[/name]-I like [name]Tristan[/name] on a girl. I’ve only seen it once.
[name]Eliana[/name] Ulaylie-I wanted to spell it Ulaylie and not [name]Eulaylie[/name] because her first name already started with an E
[name]Addisyn[/name] [name]Olesia[/name]-I don’t like the --[name]Son[/name] in this name. So I thought a Y would fit better.
[name]Ellison[/name] [name]Ann[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]-I <3 this name too.
[name]Kamilah[/name] [name]Rose[/name]-I think I agree. [name]Camilla[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is much better.

I still [name]Love[/name] [name]Bronson[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] [name]Juliana[/name]–these have always been my top two. I would probably lean more towards using [name]Bronson[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] over [name]Ryan[/name] [name]Juliana[/name].

My hubby is Dutch-Indonesian/French Canadian and Im Puertorican, so I was trying to get a little bit everything in there. I changed some spellings because I prefered them over the other, not because I wanted my child to stand out but I do share in your concern. Thanks!

[name]Cuyler[/name] [name]Thijs[/name] ([name]Kyler[/name] Thice): [name]Cuyler[/name] feels very trendy to me.

[name]Koen[/name] [name]Liam[/name]: Nameberry writes that [name]Koen[/name], which is Dutch, is a variation of [name]Conrad[/name], which I far prefer. I think that [name]Liam[/name] is a nice name.

As for the [name]Cohen[/name] spelling, this is an entirely different name. A [name]Cohen[/name] is a Jewish priest and a very common Jewish last name (it’s like Goldberg or Schwartz). Some (not all) Jewish people may be offended by its use on non-Jewish baby, and some won’t be, but I think this is something to consider.

If you’re interested in reading more, I summarized it in the 5th thread down, and included [name]Pam[/name]'s thoughts: https://nameberry.com/nametalk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2903&hilit=cohen

[name]Karsten[/name] [name]Everett[/name]/[name]Eliott[/name]: I love [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name], but [name]Karsten[/name] seems very feminine and trendy.

Caderyn [name]Everly[/name]: Honestly, this is yooneek spelling makes no sense to me. Is this an invented form of [name]Caden[/name]? A combo of [name]Caden[/name] and [name]Cameron[/name]? I’m seriously confused. While [name]Everly[/name] is a real name, it feels quite feminine to me.

[name]Carter[/name] [name]Bryson[/name]: So far, despite its popularity, [name]Carter[/name] is my favorite option on your list. [name]Bryson[/name] feels trendy/intented to me.

[name]Kieran[/name] [name]Ilya[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]: I think that [name]Kieran[/name] is a nice name, but I’m not a fan of [name]Ilya[/name]. I like [name]Kieran[/name] [name]Alexander[/name].

Braven [name]Lucas[/name]: Braven feels trendy to me, and I wonder how it would suit a child who is more on the whimpy side. I think that [name]Lucas[/name] is a nice name.

[name]Brendan[/name] [name]Michael[/name]: It feels trendy and dated to me, but I prefer it to the yooneek names.

Girls:
[name]Devan[/name] Remianne: I think it’s pretty spelled [name]Devon[/name], but [name]Devan[/name] reminds me a bit of divan, as in chicken divan. Remianne feels invented to me, but you may also like [name]Romilly[/name].

[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhian[/name]: I love [name]Esme[/name], but not [name]Ryan[/name] on a girl or the yooneek [name]Rhian[/name] spelling. [name]Do[/name] you like the name [name]Rhiannon[/name]?

[name]Cassidy[/name] Lehann: [name]Cassidy[/name] feels pretty dated to me, and the yooneek spelling of Lehann actually changes the pronunciation of the name you’re going for, which I’m guessing is [name]Lee[/name] [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Leigh[/name] [name]Ann[/name].

[name]Eliana[/name] Ulaylie: I think [name]Eliana[/name] is beautiful, but this yooneek spelling of the beautiful [name]Eulalie[/name] honestly makes me sad.

[name]Addisyn[/name] [name]Olesia[/name]: [name]Addison[/name]. I have no clue about [name]Olesia[/name].

[name]Ellison[/name] [name]Ann[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]: Of your modern names, I think that [name]Ellison[/name] is a nice choice. You may also like [name]Ellis[/name].

Boys:
[name]Cuyler[/name] [name]Thijs[/name] ([name]Kyler[/name] Thice) the spelling of these names make me cringe
[name]Koen[/name] [name]Liam[/name]: ok
[name]Karsten[/name] [name]Everett[/name]/[name]Eliott[/name]; i like karsten everett a lot
Caderyn [name]Everly[/name]; sounds fem and i dislike the two y’s

[name]Kieran[/name] [name]Ilya[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]; [name]KIERAN[/name] alexander is nice
Braven [name]Lucas[/name]; braven sounds too trendy
[name]Brendan[/name] [name]Michael[/name]; sounds very 90’s

Girls:
[name]Devan[/name] Remianne; devan is a boys name
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhian[/name]: esme is nice dont like the middle
[name]Cassidy[/name] Lehann: no too dated
[name]Tristan[/name] [name]Melanya[/name]: tristan is nice i dont like the incorrect spelling for melania
[name]Eliana[/name] Ulaylie; eliana nice hate the mn
[name]Addisyn[/name] [name]Olesia[/name]; addison is too popular
[name]Ellison[/name] [name]Ann[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]; ellison looks like a misspelled allison
[name]Kamilah[/name] [name]Rose[/name]; camilla rose is nice
[name]Bronson[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] ; by far my fav boys name.
[name]Ryan[/name] [name]Juliana[/name]; ryan is a boys name pls dont use it for a girl

Okay, thanks for explaining your reasoning behind the name choices. I see that you got [name]Cuyler[/name], [name]Koen[/name], and [name]Thijs[/name] from Dutch, and though I think it is wonderful to honor your husband’s heritage, I think that such names, with their spellings, will be perceived as yooneek spellings if you are living in the US.

Some that I might suggest from Dutch are:

Aleydis - G - “of noble kin”
[name]Schuyler[/name] - B/G - “scholar” ([name]Remember[/name], it sounds like [name]Skylar[/name]…)
[name]Roosevelt[/name] - B - “from the rose field”
[name]Willem[/name] - B - “strong-willed warrior”

As for Indonesian names, perhaps these will appeal to you:

Aninda - G - “dear”
Perdana - G - “the first” (Fitting for a first child!)
Bulan - B/G - “the moon”
Kirana - G/B - “beautiful sunbeam”
Selatan - B/G - “the south”
[name]Surya[/name] - G/B - “the sun”
Taman - B/G - “garden”
Timur - B/G - “the east”

For French names, there are many more to consider:

BOYS
[name]Andre[/name]
[name]Anton[/name]
[name]Augustin[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Leon[/name]
[name]Marshall[/name]
[name]Remy[/name]
[name]Sebastien[/name]

GIRLS
[name]Abrielle[/name]
[name]Alaina[/name]
[name]Ariane[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Ciel[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Giselle[/name]
[name]Mirabelle[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]

For Puerto Rican names, I wasn’t sure where exactly to look besides Spanish ones, so I thought perhaps you might have some significant family names in your family tree that you might want to resurrect and use for your child!

Otherwise, here are some options:

GIRLS
[name]Adelaida[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name]
[name]Celestine[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Geneva[/name]
[name]Mallory[/name]
[name]Marisol[/name]

BOYS
[name]Armando[/name]
[name]Chico[/name]
[name]Christian[/name]
[name]Julio[/name]
[name]Marcos[/name]
[name]Omar[/name]
[name]Raleigh[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]

[name]Do[/name] any of these names appeal to you? Perhaps instead of combining names into peculiar spellings, you could choose three names and use two middle names. I think this would be best to honor all the different heritages of your baby while still giving your child a creative and attractive name.

For a girl, I think [name]Camille[/name] [name]Surya[/name] [name]Marisol[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] Perdana [name]Celestine[/name] are very pretty names. For a boy, [name]Dashiell[/name] “[name]Dash[/name]” [name]Schuyler[/name] [name]Marcos[/name] and [name]Omar[/name] [name]Sebastien[/name] Bulan are cool! Best wishes!

Here’s my new list.

Boys:
[name]Cuyler[/name] [name]Thijs[/name] ([name]Kyler[/name] Thice)
[name]Koen[/name] [name]Liam[/name] - I like [name]Liam[/name], but not [name]Koen[/name].
[name]Karsten[/name] [name]Everett[/name]/[name]Eliott[/name] - I love [name]Carsten[/name] spelled with a “C”.
Caderyn [name]Everly[/name]
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Bryson[/name]
[name]Kieran[/name] [name]Ilya[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] - [name]Alexander[/name] is handsome, but very popular.
Braven [name]Lucas[/name] - I used to love [name]Lucas[/name], but then I stopped loving it.
[name]Brendan[/name] [name]Michael[/name]

Girls:
[name]Devan[/name] Remianne
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rhian[/name] - [name]Esme[/name] is pretty.
[name]Cassidy[/name] Lehann
[name]Tristan[/name] [name]Melanya[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name] Ulaylie
[name]Addisyn[/name] [name]Olesia[/name]
[name]Ellison[/name] [name]Ann[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Kamilah[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - I love the name [name]Camilla[/name]. Also [name]Camille[/name].

I still [name]Love[/name] [name]Bronson[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] [name]Juliana[/name] - [name]Rhys[/name] is a cool middle name and I love [name]Juliana[/name]. The other two names don’t do anything for me.

My favortie are Aleydis. Kirana, [name]Surya[/name], [name]Abrielle[/name]. I wonder if hubby will compromise with [name]Abrielle[/name] instead of [name]Aubriana[/name].

I really like [name]Cuyler[/name]. But I do like [name]Kellan[/name], [name]Beckett[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name]. I also like [name]Emerson[/name].

As for Remianne. It is made up. I didn’t know what would look better. [name]Remy[/name] [name]Anne[/name] or Remianne. I see it does look made up.

[name]Rhian[/name] is pronounced Rhee An.

[name]Melanya[/name] was the only spelling I saw, but I like [name]Melania[/name] better.

Ulaylie, I didn’t want to E’s but I don’t like the U, the more I look at it. I think I’ll risk [name]Eliana[/name] [name]Eulaylie[/name].

I really like [name]Ilya[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] paired with [name]Kieran[/name]. Maybe there’s a different way I can use the name?

I made a mistake. I knew the name sounder weird when I spelled it. Its CADEYRN. Ugh. I’m such a doof.

I just wanted to add that [name]Thijs[/name] is pronounced more like Tyce, than Thice… our son will be called Mathijs w/ nn [name]Thijs[/name]… no “Th” sound.

The “ij” is pronounced sort somehwere in between the “a” and “i” of [name]Kate[/name] and Kite… more like the word “eye” if that makes sense…

[name]Tristan[/name] is one of my favorite names–for a boy!! I think there will be significant gender confusion if you use it on a girl.
