Problem with Rhyming first and last names! HELP!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], friends!
My fiancé and I have been discussing names for our firstborn. No, we’re not pregnant yet, but plan on trying after our wedding this [name_f]October[/name_f] (we’ve been together a long, long time and are so excited to try for baby!).

My problem is this: ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been obsessed with classic, old-fashioned names which are thankfully coming back. My number one choice was (still is, really) [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. Unfortunately, my surname in three months will be… drum roll please… [name_m]Albus[/name_m]. Yes. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m]. I have come to the conclusion that I simply cannot do this to my future daughter.

We have agreed on a ton of other names in similar vein but for some reason, I can’t shake [name_f]Alice[/name_f] fever. Here are the others we both like, for either literary or family reasons:

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] (no middle yet, possibly [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f])
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], or [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] (I’m a music teacher)
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (nn possibly [name_f]Daisy[/name_f])

Any suggestions? I am feeling slightly heartbroken over this debacle. We have boys’ names chosen that we are confident about ([name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Westley[/name_m], [name_m]Archie[/name_m], etc.) but this one stumped us! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

[name_f]Kait[/name_f]

Congratulations on your engagement! Yes, never too early to talk baby names

So [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m] is definitely out. Darn! Could you use [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in the middle? Possibly have two middles to sandwich [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in there? She would only have your last name for the first 20+ years of her life then take someone elses for the 50+ years after-- just a thought?

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] comes to mind right away. I have little neighbor girls named [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and they are perfect!
Personally, I would stay away from overtly musical names, but that’s just me. Or keep them in the middle, that would be very nice.

I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. It has a certain ring to it but not too rhyme-y, if that makes sense.

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m]?
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m] (most paperwork, etc only uses first middle names)
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is very pretty!

Other suggestions:
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m]!

For the record… [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] are WONDERFUL!!

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m].

OR you could name your daughter [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and give her your surname which I hope goes better with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] than [name_m]Albus[/name_m].

Luna is a brilliant name, definitely my favourite on that list.

I would recommend an extremely unorthodox three middle names – that way you can fit Alice in there as the middle where it’s unable to cause any kind of alliteration issues, and balance it out with another two of your favourites.

Luna Juliet Alice Helena Albus sounds ethereal, like the name of a forest nymph living amongst human society.

Congratulations on your engagement! That’s really too bad about the new surname, though. I know it’s not the same as getting to use it as the first name, but I do think that you could “hide” [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as a first middle name so it’s never right up next to the surname, i.e. _______ [name_f]Alice[/name_f] _____ [name_m]Albus[/name_m]. Three middles seems a bit much to me.

You could also consider a variation like [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], which doesn’t have the same classic/literary feel as [name_f]Alice[/name_f], BUT I think would work up next to the surname.

Your entire list is lovely. You really have a lot of great names to choose from. My personal favorites are [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], and [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. You might also like [name_f]Elinor[/name_f].

Agree you can’t have [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m] on its own - what a shame!!!
You could give her your maiden name as well? So she’s [name_f]Alice[/name_f] XXXX-[name_m]Albus[/name_m]. Or as a middle (even as the only middle I think it works)

Or double barrel [name_f]Alice[/name_f]:

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f] / [name_f]Alice[/name_f]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m].

[name_m]Albus[/name_m] also presents the “A” challenge. Having a first name that ends in A and then [name_m]Albus[/name_m], makes the names sort of slide into each other. Most of your names don’t have this problem, except for [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f].

Of your suggested alternatives my favourites are:
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]) [name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (nn possibly [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]) [name_f]Selene[/name_f]

(Also, just as an aside to a previous poster, none of the married women I know took their husband’s names, me included. So she may stay [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m] all her life!).

I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as well. Some ideas from your list:
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_m]Albus[/name_m]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f] is adorable and close to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in sound)

[name_f]May[/name_f] I suggest:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m] “[name_f]Cynthie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Julienne[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f] “[name_f]Sana[/name_f]”

My favorites: [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f].
Good luck!!

What about [name_u]Allison[/name_u] [name_m]Albus[/name_m], with the nickname of [name_f]Alice[/name_f]?

You could even throw in one of the names that u listed as middle name, like… [name_u]Allison[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Albus[/name_m].
