Prometheus?

What’s your general reaction to Prometheus nn Pro?

I’m not usually a huge fan of lengthy, mythological names but I just love this. I like the whole meaning and history of it most; Prometheus, in Greek mythology, stole fire from the Gods to give to the people and is a symbol of progression and human quest for scientific knowledge.
And Pro just just the coolest nickname… [name]Theo[/name] would work too.

Opinions?

I, personally, think it would work. Especially with the approachable nicknames Pro and [name]Theo[/name]. If you feel uncomfortable with it - it’d still make an awesome, meaningful middle name.

I think it’s useable, especially with the nicknames [name]Theo[/name] or Pro.

However, I don’t know how well Prometheus and [name]Wilfred[/name] or [name]Emmett[/name] will work as a sibset.

I think of the movie…

I think it’s completely over-the-top and just a tad ridiculous, honestly. Good middle name material though.

I feel it is a little over-the-top.

I think of Prometheus and [name]Bob[/name]… a rarely heard of short that aired on Nickelodeon in the early 90’s… yeah, I may be one of few, but for that reason I wouldn’t use it. The movie issue would come next. And third the fact that it’s in general pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I agree, good middle choice!

I also don’t think Pro would make a good nickname. I want to continue on to say Proactive. I’d stick with [name]Theo[/name] or throw Prometheus in the middle!

Haha, no, probably wouldn’t work best with brothers [name]Emmett[/name] and [name]Wilfred[/name].
It’s not my style at all, I just like the idea really.

I think of the scary movie and its a too big of a name for my taste.

Prometheus is such a magnificent mythological figure - so much so that I would never dream of using the name. It’s just feels so loaded to me. I also think of the Prometheus tree, the oldest organism ever discovered on [name]Earth[/name] (but that might be just because I’m married to an ecologist…).

Aliens… the movie by the name.
At first I thought you might be a troll posting about that name.

I like the name Prometheus and the fire myth.
I just don’t think I’d want my kid to be named for a mythological figure who is forced to spend eternity punished by having his liver eaten by an eagle just for it to grow back every day.

[name]Love[/name] Greek mythology, L-O-V-E [name]Michael[/name] Fassbender. Not usable in my opinion though.

I really like a lot of mythology-inspired names. But I’d say this one is way too over-the-top. It sounds like it should be the name of a space ship from [name]Star[/name] Trek or something. In fact, it seems to me like it was the name of a space ship in some movie or video game I’ve heard of somewhere. I think it could work as a MN, but strongly don’t think it works as a FN.

Honestly I find it [name]OTT[/name] and a bit pretentious. It’s a really big name with very specific ties. I also don’t like the nn Pro…like he’s a pro at something? Also can come off a bit pretentious to me. I don’t relaly know why I’m disliking it this much but I am. SOrry.

Over-the-top and ridiculous for sure. Pro’s a silly nickname for someone too. What, exactly would he be a pro at? Golf? Thief? Hockey player?

I agree. I think it’s way too much. [name]How[/name] about [name]Ignatius[/name]? It has a similar feel to me but a lot more toned down.
