I would go for [name]Liliana[/name]. [name]Mackenzie[/name] is very trendy at the moment, and while there is nothing wrong wit trendy names, they do tend to be the ones more easily to become dated in later decades (Think [name]Gladys[/name], [name]Sharon[/name], [name]Tracy[/name]).
[name]Liliana[/name] has a more elegant feel and would age better in my opinion. It is undoubtedly a very ‘feminine’ name but it has a huge range of nicknames to chose from ([name]Lily[/name], Lils, [name]Lana[/name], [name]Linny[/name]) that a tomboy could easily revert to.
I strongly prefer [name]Liliana[/name] to [name]Mackenzie[/name]. [name]Mackenzie[/name] means “son of Coinneach.” The [name]Mac[/name]- prefix is always masculine in meaning, so I strongly dislike [name]Mackenzie[/name] on a girl. [name]Liliana[/name] is pretty and if she turns out to be a tomboy she can always go by [name]Lil[/name]. I’d love to give you suggestions, but it’s a little difficult to get a sense of your style with only two names- are there any other names you or your husband like that you’ve rejected for whatever reason? It would help to get a sense of your taste.
I prefer [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Elyse[/name]. I think it’s beautiful and don’t think it’s too feminine. She can always go by [name]Lil[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Lia[/name], or [name]Lila[/name] if she wants. [name]Mackenzie[/name] is nms. I do love the name [name]Grace[/name] but feel that it’s gotten boring and predictable as a mn.
[name]Daisy[/name] we had other names but narrowed them down to those 2 names. We had [name]Charlotte[/name] but took that off our list. We have a daughter and her name is [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Leigh[/name], we love her name so much and we are having a hard time with a sweet name like that for our second. We also have a long last name so we are limited to the length of it.
Thank you for you reply!
Thank you again everyone for responding so quickly and giving ur opinion!!
Much appreciated!
[name]Liliana[/name] [name]Elyse[/name] 100%. [name]Mackenzie[/name] is just so trendy and over used. [name]Liliana[/name] is beautiful, has cute nicknames ([name]Lily[/name], [name]Ana[/name]) and will age so much better. I love [name]Elyse[/name] too. It’s very feminine and unusual without behind unheard of.
I agree; [name]Liliana[/name] may be a feminine name, but so is [name]Hannah[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are lovely, and go well together as a sibset, [name]IMO[/name]!!
Best,
L.
I prefer [name]Liliana[/name] in general but I think it’s a little match-y in sound with big sister [name]Hannah[/name]. I actually love [name]Elyse[/name] as the first name - is that an option?
[name]Mackenzie[/name] is really dated. Honestly, I wouldn’t use it. I agree with your husband; it doesn’t suit an adult very well, and it’s hard to take seriously. As for [name]Liliana[/name] – it’s pretty at first sight, but it goes too far beyond [name]Lillian[/name] and becomes heavy. I feel the nickname [name]Lily[/name] is inevitable, and [name]Lily[/name] is just so popular right now. To be honest, I’d cop for something else. Here are some suggestions…

R u kidding? To say [name]Mackenzie[/name] is dated is a little extreme. I would not consider it dated, I consider it a name of the times. Its a name which has had steady use and fits in with all the Makaylas, [name]Makenna[/name]'s etc. Dont throw around the word dated so loosely. Dated names are something which one would expect to be on a mom rather then a child and names which have been abandoned by parents. Alot of nameberry users (not all) tend to go overboard with trying to find the most new names (feminine names with history) and if its not new and unused then many say its dated. And If its new and unisex then they say its trendy and [name]WILL[/name] be dated, they say this because they dont like unisex names. Here are the stats on [name]Mackenzie[/name] (Im attaching below the years that it hit the top 100…which was 1995…last 14 years). I guarantee you that if you name your daughter [name]Mackenzie[/name], people in real life are not going to meet your daughter and think “oh she has a dated name”… So my point is to keep the opinions your getting into perspective, and if you love the name [name]Mackenzie[/name] then by all means use it, because its a perfectly fine name and if people are going to argue that it doesnt age well, then they need to realize that alot of names have a youthful feel to them (many names that end in the ee sound) but the fact remains that these names will age well, because of the women who wear the names, it will become the norm…just as names like [name]Tracy[/name], [name]Carrie[/name] etc…have aged just fine for women in their 30’s. It becomes the norm and people dont think about it, they think about the person who is wearing the name. As far as [name]Liliana[/name] is concerned, it is super feminine. And its a varient of [name]Lily[/name] so if people are going to bring the issue of dated to the table, then bring it with [name]Liliana[/name] too, because [name]Lily[/name] will be in the same boat as [name]Mackenzie[/name]…just as most names in the top 100…lets face it, all names with the exception of [name]Elizabeth[/name] will be considered dated in 30 years…look at people who are now in their 30’s that had a top 100 name during the year they were born…even alot of the top 200 names…all the names are now considered dated…even the classics…like [name]Rachel[/name] etc.
If neither one of the names are working for you then maybe its time to look at other options, what about [name]Makenna[/name]? Its similiar to [name]Makenzie[/name] but feels a bit more grown up. There is also [name]Melania[/name]…it feels like its has qualities of both names you are considering. Good luck!

Whoa, I don’t thin the pp is throwing around the term dated loosely at all. In fact, the first word I thought when I saw [name]Mackenzie[/name] the first word that came to mind was “dated”. [name]Just[/name] because it is still in the top 100 does not mean it is a fresh choice for a baby born in 2011, it is part of a meganame trend that is waning including [name]Mackenna[/name], [name]Makayla[/name] etc. Your chart shows that it is dropping every year. [name]Madison[/name] is still very high on the SSA list as well but I think it is dated and screams 80s and 90s to me. I think there are a lot of names out there to compliment the sweet, enduring, classic [name]Hannah[/name] much better than [name]Mackenzie[/name], whether you want to call it dated or not, that’s up to you and one’s own definition of what a dated name is. Also whether or not it will age well is still up in the air, honestly the example of [name]Tracy[/name] you used exemplifies a dated 70s name to me. Also I myself have a unisex name which I quite like, so to make a generalization like “And If its new and unisex then they say its trendy and [name]WILL[/name] be dated, they say this because they dont like unisex names” is not a statement I agree with. I could give you a big list of unisex names I love but [name]Macenzie[/name] would not be on it. But, that is what is great about nb though, we are all passionate about names and enjoy debating their merits. I just wanted to share my perspective as well.
If [name]Liliana[/name] seems to flowery, how about [name]Lillian[/name]?
I have to disagree with [name]Plato[/name] as well. To me, “dated” doesn’t mean it’s a name you’d expect on a 20-30 year old. “Dated” is dated to any time period- [name]Bertha[/name] is dated to the 1880’s, [name]Linda[/name] to the 1950’s, [name]Ashley[/name] to the 1990’s, and and the [name]Mac[/name]/Mc names to the 2000’s. And not every name becomes dated- [name]Theresa[/name], [name]Angela[/name], [name]Rose[/name], and [name]Christina[/name] all have their most popular days behind them but it wouldn’t seem strange to meet a baby with those names. [name]Mackenzie[/name] and the McNames will- just look at the statistics:
[name]Makayla[/name]- not in the top 1000 until 1989, most popular (37) in 2008
[name]McKenna[/name]- Not in the top 1000 until 1991, most popular (188) in 2000
[name]Mackenzie[/name]- Not in the top 1000 until 1976 (blame [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Phillips[/name]), most popular (40) in 2001
[name]McKinley[/name]- Entered in 2006, peaked at 760 in 2009
…and so on, ad infinitum with every variation of spelling you can think of. These days, the McNames are almost the female equivalent of the rhymes-with-Aidans- virtualy any syllables you can think of, preceeded by “Mc,” is some little girl’s name. They’re destined to be “Mom” names in 30 years and “Old Lady” names in 70. More classic popular names like [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Lily[/name], not so much.
My favourite sibling name for [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Leigh[/name] is another Biblical gem - [name]Abigail[/name]! [name]Mackenzie[/name] is so different to me in style to the classic [name]Hannah[/name] that I really can’t visualize them as sisters at all. [name]Liliana[/name] is pretty but too similar in sound to [name]Hannah[/name]. [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Leigh[/name] and [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Grace[/name] would make a great sister duo! All the best!
@plato - I can’t speak for others here on Nameberry but when I say a name is “dated” in my posts it can mean a couple of things: (1) it’s not a standard classic that has stood the test of time; (2) it’s part of a trend that seemingly comes out of nowhere for no reason (eg. [name]Mackenzie[/name], [name]Mackenna[/name], Mykala - “Mic-[name]Mac[/name]” names is my special phrase for them). Another term could be “tired”. Usually, in regard to names, the terms are interchangeable as far as I’m concerned. [name]Mackenzie[/name] popped up from obscurity & so many girls were given the name, it longer feels “fresh” to my ears, therefore it’s dated. Judging by your statistics with the name on a downward trend, many people feel the same way.
CURIOSITY: [name]HOW[/name] [name]DO[/name] U ALL PRONOUNCE [name]LILIANA[/name]?
We want to say it like, “Li-lee-ah-nuh” … would many pronounce it wrong her whole life?
[name]Abigail[/name] is nice but our dog name is [name]Abby[/name]…so that might be a little weird…lol
I appreciate all your suggestions, it’s all EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!
Oh well, your dog [name]Abby[/name] has been named well! I pronounce [name]Liliana[/name] as “Li-lee-ah-nuh” but some people may say it like [name]Lillian[/name] with an “a” at the end. If you live in a place with a large Hispanic population it wouldn’t be a problem as it’s the way they pronounce it. If not, well, don’t let that discourage you from choosing this pretty name. [name]Just[/name] simply correct them and they’ll soon get the hang of it. All the best!
Where I live there isn’t 2 many Hispanics. But I figure kind of fits in the whole “[name]Brianna[/name]” … and its sounds the same as “[name]Liliana[/name]” … I like the name [name]Liliana[/name] but I am worried we will always have to correct it…rrrr…it’s hard 2 decide.
If we pronounce it like [name]Liliana[/name] (ana) then it’s way to close to our first daughter “[name]Hannah[/name]” … :?:
I dont like [name]Mackenzie[/name] at all. Its very trendy and childish sounding in my opinion. Also it is a moden day [name]Jennifer[/name], in 10 years it will be overdone and dated. [name]Liliana[/name] is very pretty. You said your first daughter was [name]Hannah[/name]? I would go with something a little for classic so that the names flow well together. If [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Liliana[/name] dont fit her, maybe the nn [name]Lana[/name] would work? And yes, I prn [name]Liliana[/name] like you do.
