[name]How[/name] do you pronounce it?
I absolutely love [name]Rowena[/name], but every time I say it comes out differently. I say Row-ENN-a. I’m interested to see the correct pronunciation.
Row-enn-ah.
But sometimes my brain wants to say Row-een-ah, which I don’t think that sounds as good.
I’ve only ever heard it pronounced Row-een-uh
I believe most people would pronounce it as “roh-wee-nuh” or “roh-ee-nuh” which is unfortunate. My heart and mind always wants to pronounce this spelling as “roh-wenn-uh” and [name]Rowina[/name] as “roh-wee-nuh”.
I have a good friend with this name who has always pronounced it Roh-wee-nuh. This is also how the vast majority of people pronounce it when they meet her. We are in Australia, and she is British by birth from a British family. Might be different in the US.
Wow – this is fascinating because I came into this thread assuming everyone was going to say the same thing: roh-WEE-nuh, which is the only prn I have ever heard. And, I might add, that I think it’s quite lovely! I have a lot of trouble saying it with a short e sound. roh-WENN-uh is very difficult for me to remember to say and definitely doesn’t sound as nice as roh-WEE-nuh. Honestly, I’m shocked that there is another prn for it! I haven’t known that many (only 2 or 3), but they all have prn it with the long e sound.
I’m in the US by the way.
I totally agree. The “weena” part is unfortunate.
I’ve only ever heard it pronounced Row-wee-nuh.
Interesting. Part of me was hoping that roh-WEE-nuh was wrong, and that it was actually supposed to be pronounced roh-EN-nuh or roh-WEN-nuh.
Yep. Like [name]Rowena[/name] Ravenclaw, lol.
I would pronounce it as roh-wee-nuh
I pronounce it like row-een-uh.
roweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeena…horrible…cuz [name]Rowan[/name] is my favorite name
Never heard anything except Row ee nuh.
[name]Ro[/name]- ween-a
I’ve only ever heard it pronounced “row-EE-nuh”. Although if you want “row-ENN-uh”, then you could use Rowenna.
I pronounce [name]Rowena[/name] row-EEN-a.
Row (as in ROW a boat)
Een ( as in glEEN
A ( as papA)
Haha, that was my first thought when I read through some of these posts. Had I been reading her name wrong all these years?!
