[name]Just[/name] recently discovered the names [name]Linnea[/name] and [name]Davina[/name], think they’re both great but I’m not sure of the proper pronunciations and I’m pretty sure I’ve been saying them wrong in my mind
[name]How[/name] is [name]Linnea[/name] pronounced? I’ve been saying it as ‘lyn-ee-a’ but I think that might be wrong, would it be acceptable even if it’s not the traditional pronunciation?
[name]How[/name] is [name]Davina[/name] pronounced? I’ve been going with ‘dav-een-a’ but again I’m not sure
Any suggestions names with a similar vibe to these two?
What middle names would you use for each (just for fun)?
[name]Linnea[/name] I think is from [name]Carl[/name] Linnaeus the botanist, and as far as I know because of the Scandinavian origin is [name]Lin[/name]-NAY-uh.
I think there’s probably an argument that in an English speaking environment you could say it [name]LIN[/name]-ee-a but then it just sounds like linear!
As stated above, [name]Linnea[/name] can be pronounced both as “[name]Lin[/name]-AY-uh” and “[name]LIN[/name]-ee-uh.” I lean towards the former pronunciation but really like them both. (Actually, after reading what vch23 said about the word ‘linear’, I definitely like the first one more.)
As for [name]Davina[/name], I believe you are correct in Dav-EE-nuh.
For me, I would probably go with something like [name]Linnea[/name] [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Davina[/name] [name]Skye[/name]. Because, lately, I am loving fun middles.
[name]Davina[/name] is Dav-EE-nuh. There’s a British presenter [name]Davina[/name] McCall, which is where I take the pronunciation from. [name]Linnea[/name] I’ve never actually heard said, I’d guess [name]Linn[/name]-ay-uh if there’s an accent on the E which I sometimes see.
[name]Linnea[/name] is pronounced lee-neh-a (e in lee being short). My mother tongue is Swedish but it’s really difficult to tell how to pronounce [name]Linnea[/name] fonetically. [name]Hope[/name] some one got what I meant.
