I say ə-MEE-lee-ə/Uh-MEE-lee-uh. I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f].

uh-mee-lee-uh. I am from [name_u]California[/name_u]

Uh-MEE-lee-uh. Connecticut, US

ah-MEEL-ee-ah. I’m from Australia.

I pronounce it uh-MEEL-ee-uh, and I am from [name_f]Florida[/name_f].

uh-MEE-lee-uh United States, [name_u]Texas[/name_u]

Well, I say it Am-eel-ya, and I’m from [name_m]Washington[/name_m]. I asked my grandma and she says the same way. She’s from [name_u]Colorado[/name_u].

I was reading a post on swistle’s blog and she was pronouncing it Am-eel-ee-ah. I was kind of thinking it was wierd that she assumed that the way that the person who wrote to her pronounced that way. I have always thought of the former pronunciation to be the default and latter to be the alternative.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it the same in the [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Bedelia[/name_f] books?

I see [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as uh-mee-lee-ah and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] as em-ee-lee-ah

I say uh-MEE-lee-uh. I’m in the US.

Yeah I’m from [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] and say it 3 syllables as well. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever heard it 4 syllables… it just seems too… long to say? Like it’s a lot of effort to drag it out to 4 syllables. For what it’s worth, I pronounce it 3 syllables because I once saw a reality show with a contestant named [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Everyone on the show pronounced it with 3 syllables.

I’m from [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] and I say [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as a-[name_u]MEL[/name_u]-yah as 3 syllables. However I say [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] as 4 syllables [name_f]Em[/name_f]- I- lee-ah, like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] with an ‘a’ at the end.

ah-MEAL-yuh.

I stretch it out (uh-meal-ee-yuh)
