[name]Do[/name] you pronounce it At-ti-cuss, At-ti-kiss, att-ic-us or other? I have heard different ways to say it and was just curious which is the most common pronunciation or the proper pronunciation?
AT-uh-kus. I haven’t heard it pronounced differently.
At-ti-kiss
I feel like the CUS become a KISS sound in normal pronunciation.
Great name and not much variation no matter the minor pronunciation deviations.
This! This exactly.
att-ee-cus
I say it with the “CUS” sound, but to me, there is almost no difference between the two pronunciations.
Att-ih-cus is how I say it.
At - ih - cuss
Same as renrose, looks like!
In my accent there’s almost no difference in the three pronunciations you gave. I suppose it’s closer to Att-i-cus, but again, all pretty much the same for me.
[name]Atticus[/name] is my sons middle name and we pronounce it Att-ih-cuss.
[name]Bree[/name]
I say it Atta-kiss. The ‘cus’ part is said quickly so it just becomes ‘kiss’ when I say it.
I say it as At-tuh-kiss.
- [name]Athena[/name]
I know only one [name]Atticus[/name] and he says it: Att-tuh-kiss (kind of like saying At a Kiss really fast)
Which is, I believe, how it is said in the movie/book To Kill a Mockingbird since that’s how he got his name…
I think this is more an accent thing than a pronunciation thing. I don’t really think there are different official ways to say this name – I just think people say it slightly differently depending on their accent. I’ve been saying it over and over and sometimes it sounds like ATT-ih-kus, and sometimes it sounds like ATT-ih-kiss.
Unless you’re planning on pronouncing it at-TEE-kus (which I don’t recommend because I think that’s a made up prn), I think you’ll get varying pronunciations, but they’re all so close and it’s such a great name – worth it in my opinion.
