Pronunciation Help!

[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] just off the top of your head? I looked it up and my pronunciation is a tad off. I think it looks beautiful… But I don’t want a name that no one can pronounce.

Thank you.

I say a cross between “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-may-lee” and “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-muh-lee”…it’s hard to describe how I say it, haha!

[name_m]AH[/name_m]-meh-lee

I think I say A’-[name_u]Mel[/name_u]-EE … Auto correct keeps adding capital letters

Thank you. Haha. I was saying “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-Muh-[name_u]Lee[/name_u].”

I have no clue how to write down how I say it, hahaha! I think it’s sort of like [name_m]AH[/name_m]-mee-lee in [name_m]French[/name_m], and ah-MILL-ee in English. [name_f]My[/name_f] best friend was [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and I asked her via PM how she pronounced it (we met on another baby name forum, haha!), and she said in [name_f]France[/name_f] it’s a mix between ah-MILL-ee and ah-[name_f]MAY[/name_f]-lee, but her nn was [name_f]Millie[/name_f], so I just naturally stuck with the [name_f]Millie[/name_f] sound. Now I’m starting to think that AM-illy (or even [name_m]AH[/name_m]-milly) is closer to how it would be said in [name_m]French[/name_m]? I don’t know. I generally avoid [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] for this very reason–there never seems to be a general consensus on how it’s said! I have to admit that I really love the AM-illy prn, though. Several of my British friends use that, and I heard [name_m]Jonny[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_m]Miller[/name_m] use it once on the TV show Elementary, as well.

[name_m]AH[/name_m] - mə - lee. I definitely use a ‘schwa’ sound in the middle when I’m speaking English - that’s the neutral not quite a, not quite uh, not quite i vowel that a lot of people are describing.

If I were speaking [name_m]French[/name_m], the syllables are a little closer to being evenly accented, and the middle sound is a touch closer to may, but still not all the way there - the same sound ashthedreamer is describing.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-muh-lee

I used to know an [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and she pronounced it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-muh-lee

I tend to try to say it ah-mee-lee like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but I know it’s supposed to be ah-may-lee (as far as I know).

I read/prounounce it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-malee—I first learned of this name with that pronunciation from the movie ‘[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]’ (2001)

[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-meh-lee

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] with and [name_m]AH[/name_m] instead of an EH. Haha.
