Pronunciation of Emmanuelle?

I am a fairly new member, but I am curious how you personally pronounce the girl’s name [name]Emmanuelle[/name]. I have had a few skirmishes with people I know because I say E-man-yoo-elle, not E-man-well.

[name]Rae[/name]

I say it the way you say it. But I’m American and we always manage to butcher other peoples names.

Ee-man-you-elle

I love it!

I say “Eh-man-u[name]ELL[/name]” …halfway between “well” and “oo-ell.” Beautiful name.

I would say E-man-yoo-ell. And I would pronounce the male version, [name]Emanuel[/name], E-man-yoo-ul.

I pronounce it like emmabobemma, which is kind of 3.5 syllables: Eh-man-u[name]ELL[/name].

ee-man-you-ell, didn’t know there was another way, that’s how it is sung “oh come oh come [name]Emmanuel[/name]” I’m also Catholic, and in all the churches I have attended, that’s how they say it…

I’ve always pronounced it “[name]Ah[/name] - man - u -well”.

I pronounce it Eh-man-you-ell. I’ve never heard it pronounced e-man-well.

Haha. Yes. This is a name I too am familiar with singing, along with Hosannah.

You can hear the name pronounced here [x]. Also, you’ll be able to hear it when they read aloud the nominees for Best Actress at the Academy Awards since the lovely [name]Emmanuelle[/name] [name]Riva[/name] (whose name that’s being said in the link above) is nominated.

I pronounce Eh-mah-nu-elle. Eh rhymes with hey.

I say it the same way, and for the same reason! Minus the Church thing, as I’ve never been a church-goer, but I certainly learned that song as a Christmas carol.

The suggested pronunciation would not fit with the melody, though come to think of it, the way it’s pronounced in the song is abysmally fit into the cadence as well :stuck_out_tongue:
