I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] when pronounced as [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line, but not as much when pronounced [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen or [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-lynn. What is your first pronunciation instinct when you see the name? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think insisting on the [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line pronunciation is feasible?
I adore [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. I much prefer the [name_f]LINE[/name_f] pronunciation. Family and friends will learn the pronunciation you wish. Strangers might pronounce it wrong but that can happen with lots of names. I would not worry.
I pronounce it -LEEN. It’s my first instinct and the only pronunciation I’ve ever heard used. I do like the -[name_f]LINE[/name_f] pronunciation and do think it’s possible to use, but you might have to correct people a bit in the beginning.
I pronounce it emma-[name_f]LINE[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].
I say [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-Leen. To get to [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-[name_f]Line[/name_f] I’d spell it [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f], over [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
I say it emma-line. It’s the only way I’ve ever heard it pronounced. I’m east coast US if that helps.
My instinct is to say [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-Leen, but I like [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-[name_f]Line[/name_f], and I think that it could definitely work. You may just have to corrct strangers sometimes, but it’s not a drastically different pronounciation so I wouldn’t worry too much! I’d go with it!
I’ve been thinking of asking the same question! I love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] when pronounce [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line. I don’t mind [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-Leen but I much prefer [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line. I don’t think spelling it [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] changes anything since it’s the pronunciation of the “line” part and not the “[name_f]Emma[/name_f]” that’s the problem. I’ve never met an [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] though I did see an American movie from the 1960s with a character named [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line. You may have to correct some people’s pronounciation but I don’t think it’ll that bad (especially if you live in the US.) Good luck!
I pronounce it [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]! I think most people outside of the baby naming world would! Majority of people would not say “leen” if they see “line”.
